The project
D.NAMICA studies the implementation of a computing platform for the integration of
clinical and genetic indicators. The purpose of the platform is to support research for the
personalization of medicine.

D.NAMICA is cofunded by ERDF - European Regional
Development Fund - Friuli Venezia Giulia Region Operational
Programme 2007 - 2013. The project fosters the cooperation
between research organizations, universities, technology transfer
centres and enterprises.
It started in February 2012 and the duration of the project is 30
months.
The project goal is thus to develop an integrated intelligent
system to collect, manage and make clinical and molecular
data of patients suffering cardiac, cancer and neurodegenerative
diseases available for researchers and doctors.

Research and clinical practice are moving toward the integration of
clinical data with molecular data from genomics, proteomics,
metabolomics and other “-omics.
This is the future challenge to achieve a personalized medicine.

The project will implement three pilot projects in the following areas:
• cardiology (dilated cardiomyopathy);
• oncology (Hepatocellular carcinoma);
• neurodegenerative diseases (spinal muscular atrophy).
I. Industrial research
Genetic-molecular parameters in patients
affected by cardiac, cancer, and
neurodegenerative diseases will be analyzed
by advanced sequencing techniques.
The management of these data will be
complementary to those collected during the
clinic experimentation phase using a tailored
computing platform to collect, integrate, store
and share data and elaborations for clinical
research.

II. Pre-competitive development
The partners, using standard approaches, will develop:
• diagnostic panels able to detect genetic polymorphisms for the investigated
pathologies, as well as new genomic tests;
• prototypal devices for the connection and interface of data surveying instruments (for
clinical, biological and genomic analysis) for the implementation of the integrated EMR;
• a user friendly computing platform prototype for the three pilot experimentations.
