Alcohol is created when grains, fruits, or vegetables are fer-mented. Fermentation is a pro-cess that uses yeast or bacteria to change the sugars in the food into alcohol. Alcohol is a de-pressant, which means it slows the function of the central nervous system. Alcohol actu-ally blocks some of the messag-es trying to get to the brain. This alters a person's percep-tions, emotions, movement, vi-sion, and hearing.
