• Salaries in boom states heavily impacted

•HSE Managers in WA down 20.8%; in QLD down 10.7%

• Entry-level role TAR has increased

• Senior-most safety roles increased TAR by 6.5%

• Safety functions consolidated but commitment to health and

safety has increased – pressure to do more with less

geographic readjustment

• Consistent with previous years findings – demand for formal qualifications continue to rise

• At the OHS/HSE Manager level two thirds now hold an undergraduate degree in safety or better – a significant increase over last year

• The mining downturn has seen a rush of people updating their qualifications in WA

• Top emerging issue was dealing with mental health and wellbeing, raised by 41% of participants Focus on doing more with less

• 65% found difficulty in hiring talent. Poor quality of candidates in the market was raised frequently

• Bullying and Harassment and stress were prominent in commentary

• 25% raised the ageing workforce as an emerging issue

• 4 out of 10 participants flagged mental health as their top issue

• “Increasing litigiousness of employees” with psychological claims flagged as major consideration

• 90% of respondents have mental health initiatives

• 63% found it difficult to measure the effectiveness of these initiatives

• Some respondents indicated a doubling in psychological claims last financial year
