The Knowledge Gap

Medical students generally have little genetic training

In 2007, 112 US and Canadian medicals schools were assessed for genetic education:

• Only 50% had a stand-alone genetics course

• 80% have under 40 contact hours in genetics

• Most did not teach how to apply genetic information clinically
