August 1 to August 7 was dedicated to Organ

Donation Awareness, with a special emphasis on Skin Donation.

Rotary Club of Deonar and National Burns Centre

in the past have worked closely in the field of

‘Operation Restore’ which is corrective,

rehabilitative surgery for burns victims. This has progressed to wide spread awareness about Skin Donation.

Awareness was created in schools through Essay Competition in 3 languages on

the topic” MAKING AN EFFECTIVE SKIN DONATION AWARENESS PROGRAMME”. More than 200 entries were received and judged.

A seminar on SKIN AND ORGAN DONATION was organized by Rotary

International Dist-3140 and National Burns Centre at Indian Merchant Chambers

(IMC) on 1st August 2013. It was a platform to bring together all the organizations

(like clinicians, IMAs, Hospitals, ZTCC, NGOs, Rotary, Schools, Colleges etc) working towards the cause of Skin, Eye and Organ Donations

On August 4th, a Musical Night was organized by Rotary Club of Deonar at the Tata

Institute of Social Sciences Convention Centre to create awareness on Skin Donation among general public.

At the end of Week on 7th August 2013 A PRIZE DISTRIBUTION AND

FELICITATION PROGRAM was organized at Sophia College Convention Hall to

felicitate the prize winners of the Essay and Poster competition and Relatives of Skin Donors.

On the same day an awareness initiative was organized at the Ecole Mondiale World School to educate the next generation about Organ Donation

• Distribution of 8000 chemist bags with Skin Donation message inscribed on it to

pharmacies in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane for dispensing medicines.

Distribution of various Skin Donation awareness materials in the form of

posters, handouts, and Coffee Mugs with messages on it to General

Practioners.

• Distribution of hand outs and display of Skin Donation standees at various

Malls.

• Presence of standees at various hospitals across the city to increase

awareness about Skin Donation.

• Awareness amongst schools and colleges by talks on Skin Donation. Dr.

Keswani gave a talk on Skin Donation at Vivekananda College of Engineering,

K.J. Somaiya College and Jhunjhunwala College. He also gave a lecture on

Skin Donation in AMA meeting and at the Indian Medical Association ( IMA) and

WARD Association.

• Standees were displayed in all 24 colleges of Vivekananda Institute of

Technology and various other schools and colleges of Airoli, Central Mumbai

and South Mumbai.

• Dr. Keswani gave a lecture on Skin Donation in 4 Art schools - L S Raheja

School of Art, Sophia Polytechnic, Rachana Sansad College of Applied Art and

Craft and Sir J J Institute of Applied Art. The lecture was followed by a Poster

competition on the topic Skin Donation. 262 entries were received which were

judged by 4 Artists of Repute.

• More than 200 entries were received and judged for the winners of the Essay

Competition on the topic” MAKING AN EFFECTIVE SKIN DONATION

AWARENESS PROGRAMME”

• We started with a big bang with Dr.

Keswani being interviewed on Skin

Donation by the radio channel BIG 92.7

FM.

• A seminar on SKIN AND ORGAN

DONATION was organized by Rotary

International Dist-3140 and National Burns Centre at Indian Merchant

Chambers (IMC) on 1st August 2013.

• The seminar was hosted by Rotary Club of Bombay North and was co hosted

by Rotary Club of Deonar and many other Rotary clubs from south Bombay.

• DG Lata Subraidu was the chief guest at the seminar.

• It was a platform to bring together all the organizations (like clinicians, IMAs,

Hospitals, ZTCC, NGOs, Rotary, Schools, Collges etc) working towards the

cause of Skin, Eye and Organ Donations. The effort was to work together

towards a common Helpline for all Organ donations.

• An image building exercise for the brand ‘Rotary’ clubbed with the noble cause

of Skin Donation Awareness. The evening was a joint effort by the NBC and the

RCD.

• A Musical evening celebrating the 84th birth anniversary of Kishore Kumar with

performances by the singing troupe of Doctors ‘Tuning Folks’ and our Guest of

Honour Shri. Babul Supriyo. The event was also graced by our District

Governor – Lata Subraidu.

• The Musical Nite was organized with a dual purpose of saying a ‘Thank you’ to

past, present and future well wishers of the RCD and creating awareness about

the necessity and importance of skin donation.

• Wide spread awareness campaign launched via merchandising and display of

24 shortlisted entries of the poster

competition.

• The constant persistent efforts of all the

rodeos ensured a FULL HOUSE …. We were

sitting on the stairs.(Internal gossip – we had

to apologies to late comers as there were no

seats for them)

• Silent National Anthem by students of the Rochiram

Thadani School for Hearing Impaired.

• Impact of seeing a skin donation beneficiary LIVE

• Visit by the RJ of Big 92.7 FM

• Unexpected treat of listening to Babul Supriyo belt

out memorable songs

• Casting of votes for Most Popular Category – Poster

Competition.

)• A prize distribution and felicitation program was organized at Sophia College

Convention Hall to felicitate the prize winners of Essay and Poster competition

and Skin Donors Relatives.

• The chief guest was – DGE Ajay Gupta

and Mr. Vivek Oberoi ( Cine star ) was

the Guest of Honour.

• Jaideep Mehrotra, Arzaan Khambatta,

Sunil Padwal and Brinda Chudasama

were the eminent artists who judged the

Poster competition. They critiqued the

students on their efforts viz the topic.

• Guest of Honour – Vivek Oberoi spoke from the

heart about the need to get involved in such

social causes. He also emphasized the ability of

the younger generation to bring about this much

needed change.!

• Our MC’s Ojas and Bijal enthralled the

attendees with their quick repartees and

appropriate ‘Sher – o – Shayari’

• Our Ms. Bijal was the first Rotarian to give an autograph to a celebrity.
