Evidence Handling?let’s start with the basics

• Evidence Receipt

– Only an authorized evidence custodian checks in evidence

– When evidence is received we attach a chain of custody, a unique tracking number and a

clear description of the evidence is made in our description field of our chain of custody.

• Evidence Inventory

– Evidence is track using the chain of custody and our electronic evidence log. Both of these

tie the evidence to a unique project.

– All items of evidence associated with a client can quickly be identified and located by

generating an electronic report.

– The chain of custody stays with the item of evidence throughout the evidence

processing.

– Each person processing the original evidence signs, dates and transfers the evidence

to the next individual, thus a complete listing is available for all persons coming into

contact with the evidence is made.

Evidence Storage

unescorted access to evidence while in storage.

Electronic key access restricts entry to authorized individuals. This E key access is for the entire work area and smaller sub-group can access the data processing facility and an even smaller group can evidence storage areas. We log all entries into our facility.

• Safes and lock boxes along with secure restricted access limit access to just the authorized custodians. Each time the custodians change new combinations and card access are changed.

1 Ton Safes are used for Rule 6(e) storage Typical lock boxes for media shipping.

Evidence storage is restricted to evidence custodian access only. Three individuals are authorized unescorted access to this area.

Current Evidence Processing center has limited electronic key access and cameras.

On large engagements we will sent our custodians on-site to assist in the inventory and collections process. This ensures one complete evidence list is generated and starts a proper chain of custody.
