You have heard it before, physical activity is good for you. How good for you is it? Exercising regularly not only helps the body systems function well but it aids in reducing your risk of heart disease, diabetes and developing certain cancers.

As we get older, we are more prone to these diseases which is why maintaining a fitness regimen, even the most simple, is extremely beneficial to seniors. There are plenty of fitness programs and low-resistance training that are great for senior citizens. Many of our seniors enjoy going to Zumba or swimming classes as they are easy to learn and very enjoyable.

fitness classes aimed at seniors. The water is easier is on joints.

• Keep in mind how many fresh fruits and vegetables are being consumed. Make sure you are getting enough.

• Continue doing household chores, like folding laundry and doing dishes.

• Take grandchildren to the park. Their energy is infectious!
