Introduction

Basically it is distributed computing on internet fr delivery of computing service over the internet.

Eg: Yahoo!, GMail, Hotmail, Dropbox SkyDrive

So,instead of running an e-mail program on your computer, you log in to a Web e-mail account remotely. The software and storage for your account doesn't exist on your computer - it's on the service's computer cloud.

Definition

Cloud computing is a type of computing that relies on sharing computing resources basically from remote geographical location rather than having local servers or personal devices to handle applications.

In cloud computing, the word cloud (also phrased as "the cloud") is used as a metaphor for "the Internet," so the phrase cloud computing means "a type of Internet-based computing," where different services such as servers, storage and applications are delivered to an organization's computers and devices through the Internet on resource sharing and pay per what we use basis.

History of Cloud Computing

Concept evolved in 1950(IBM) called RJE (Remote Job Entry Process).

In 2006 Amazon provided First public cloud AWS(Amazon Web Service).

Later Hotmail, Google, stared mail service based on cloud.

Managed cloud service are stared by various cloud service providing vendors.

2010 Enterprize started to migrate their data on cloud.

Trend of cloud migration are increasing day by day.

Basic Cloud Architectures

Cloud Components It has three components

1.) Client computers 2.) Distributed Servers 3.) Datacenters

Page 7: Cloud computing in Nepalese perspective

Clients:

Clients: Clients are the device that the end user

interact with cloud. three types of clients:

1.) Mobile 2.) Thick 3.) Thin (Most Popular)

Cloud: Datacenters

Datacenter: It is collection of servers where application is placed and is accessed via internet.

Distributed servers: Often servers are in geographically different places, but server acts as if they are working next to each other.

Central Server :It Administers the system such as monitoring traffic, client demands to ensure everything runs smoothly. It uses a special type of software called Middleware. Middleware allow computer to communicate each other.

Cloud: Models

SaaS(Software as a service): Required software, Operating system & network is provided.

PaaS(Platform as service): Operating system and network is provided.

IaaS(Infrastructure as a service): just Network is provided.

Benefit of using CloudWhy Cloud service are popular ?

Reduce the complexity of networks. Do not have to buy software licenses.  Removes the requirement of a company to invest in

storage hardware and servers. Customization and specialization as per

requirement. Focusing on the business -a company does not have

to bother about technical issues and other problems associated with physical storage and backup

Scalability, reliability, Security and efficiency. Info. at cloud are not easily lost.

Cloud: Advantages

1. Lower computer costs. 2. Improved performance. 3. Reduced software costs. 4. Instant software updates. 5. Improved document format compatibility. 6. Unlimited storage capacity. 7. Increased data reliability. 8. Universal document access. 9. Latest version availability. 10. Device independence.

Scope of Cloud Computing

More application will be available on cloud.

Increased growth in the market. More hybrid cloud adaptation. Increased development for cloud. Security, Reliability and availability of

data. Global Business trend.

Future scope of Cloud computing in Nepal

Cloud computing services has huge opportunity in Nepal market due to the large number of Small and Medium businesses (SMBs).

Most of the leading companies are already on cloud.

E-Govermace can be implemented on rural areas using cloud.

Distance learning to remote areas and schools. Benefit to SME and corporate house. Increasing trend of outsourcing jobs.

Cloud: Limitations

1. Requires a constant Internet connection.

2. Does not work well with low-speed connections.

3. Features might be limited. 4. Can be slow. 5. Stored data might not be secure. 6. Stored data can be lost.6. Compliance is complex.

Conclusion

Thus cloud computing provide a super-computing power .

This cloud of computers extends beyond a single company or enterprise.

The applications and data served by the cloud are available to broad group of users, cross-enterprise and cross- platform.
