H-1B VISA 2017 Filing Period:
How Long Was It?
USCIS began accepting H-1B petitions subject to the
FY 2017 H-1B Cap on April 1, 2016.
The filing period lasted only for the first 5 business
days starting April 1, 2016 as required by law.
On April 7, 2016, USCIS announced that it had
received a sufficient number of H-1B petitions to
reach the H-1B Cap 2017.

H-1B VISA 2017 Petitions:
How Many Were Filed?
USCIS received 236,000 H-1B petitions subject to
the FY 2017 H-1B Cap, during the first 5 days of
the filing period that began April 1.
236,000 included petitions filed for the 20,000
advanced degree (U.S. master’s degree or higher)
exemption.
H-1B Lottery 2017 :
When Was It Conducted?
USCIS completed a computer-generated random
selection process, or the H-1B lottery, on April 9th
to meet the regular cap and the master’s cap.
USCIS conducted the selection process for the
advanced degree exemption first.
All advanced degree petitions that were not selected
became part of the random selection process for
the 65,000 regular cap limit.
H-1B Petition Is Not Selected:
When Are You Informed?
Cap-subject petitions not selected in the H-1B
lottery 2017 were rejected and returned with
USCIS filing fees.
Employers started receiving receipt notices for
H-1B petitions selected in the lottery in the last
week of April 2016. However, most employers did
not receive rejected petitions until mid June.
What Next?
Your H-1B Petition Is Not Selected!
Employers and H-1B candidates unsuccessful
in the H-1B lottery 2017 will not have a
chance to file new H-1B until April 2017.

“I am so grateful for VisaPro's help in getting an H1-B visa put into place for a
highly valuable new hire. I honestly don't know what I would have done if it
hadn't been for the help of [VisaPro] Case Manager. He was able to patiently
and clearly explain each stage of the process, was very responsive throughout,
and was really a pleasure to work with. If we ever go through this process
again, I know I will be calling VisaPro for help.”
