A Tribute to a Loyal Pet

Written for Lizzie, one of our pet dogs, a long time ago!

You came to us mysteriously,One morning, With only three good legs, And a sad look about the eyes.

I still remember, how you looked at us, Pleading, “ Please help me,”At that very moment, We, my sister and I, Took to you – As you to us.

You became a Bundle of joy to us. We loved playingHide and seek with you.

The memory of you running to greet us, (Even on rainy days!)As we returned from schoolWill forever remain, In our hearts.

Remember, how we cheered for you,When you ran the hundred metres,To welcome father or mother,When they returned from their errands.

The fun we had, whenOn one fine summer day,You, escaped from the bathWith soap and allWill forever linger with us.

The pranks you played, almost everydayWas enough to sendOur parents through the roof!(God! How we hooted with laughter.)

I know, how much you Looked forward to the, Car or three-wheeler rides to the vet, You loved the windPuffing away at your long ears, Didn’t you?

Thank you for theGreat security rendered to usBy sleeping on the balcony,Outside our rooms every night.

I think we will always remember,The times when you had puppies,You were a great mother!But you never forgot your responsibilities, Even then to your masters.

But now you are gone, Just as mysteriously as you had come, We miss you, And that’s putting it mildly!

Remember, from wherever you areThat we are always here for you. And if you ever need us,The welcome mat is spread for you.
