Initialization

Initialization of packaging looks really difficult as you have lots of things to

manage. Generally people prefer to neglect it, postponed it as much as they can.

Which result a situation when they left with no time and loads of work pressure,

in order to avoid such situations it’s better to initiate.

First of all collect all necessary data which you will required for a packaging plan

this will include,

What products/things you are going to pack?

What will be the transportation mode?

Are you packing something which is breakable or which can leak?

All such information which can play an important role in your packaging plan must

be collected initially. There is no hard and fast rule or static set of rules to know

this as it depends on situations.

Collection

When you know what data you need to collect your second step will be start

collecting all required data. You have to be very conscious while collecting data

because this will help you in deciding the packaging requirements and budget.

Any carelessness in this step can create troubles for you.

To learn this more let’s take two cases,

CASE 1: While collecting information you were supposed to arrange things for

1000 article but you predicted its 900 now what will happen? You will be out of

resources for 100 articles. This looks a small issue as you can arrange things for

100. But on larger scale this can be a nightmare.

CASE 2: Now suppose if there was actual need of 900 but you have arranged for

1500 in that case even you will face a problem of having over resources which will

be a waste of money only.

There are plenty of cases which can cause problems for you. Just to avoid all such

problems it’s always suggested to collect data sensibly.

Implementation

If you have a gun and a needle but you don’t know the actual use of both. You

won’t able to defend yourself with a gun and not even able to stitch up things

with a needle. Utilization of resources requires proper understanding of things to

utilize them optimally. To do this start exploring things and resources you have,

know them and check whether you have something which is completely unknown

for you.

After collecting all information it’s time to start implement and planning things,

how things passed on paper will be implemented in reality.

The very first thing you have to check is whether you are doing commercial

packing or you are doing this for personal uses like shifting. If you it’s for

commercial purpose you have to make sure your packaging plan is collaborated

with marketing team.

Packaging will be done with the help of boxes or envelopes; if you are doing this

for personal uses you probably don’t require printed boxes and envelopes. But in

case of commercial packaging you have to be very conscious about branding tools.

When you are sure about the packaging type, the next step will be dividing things

into various categories,

Extra-Extra Large (XXL): XXL category can be used for heavy industrial and

commercial packaging, noticeable amount of manpower and robotics arms helps

in lifting of such products. There are lots of robotic products available in markets

which are especially designed to pack these types of things.

Extra Large (XL): These are the types of products or articles which are big in size

but can be movable with manpower. Sometimes these are not heavy in weight

but bigger in volume.

Large (L): Large products like tables, wardrobes, bed, electronic items etc. these

types of articles are costlier. Proper handling and packaging of these items are

necessary because these items can get easily damage.

Page 5: Packaging guide

Medium (M): everything which not comes in small and large comes in medium

type of articles

Small (S): Small articles are one of the most difficult things to pack these items

are easy to lose and damage. Small types of articles also include documents and

papers which can be precious as well.

After dividing things in order it’s time to allocate all the resources you have and

giving instructions to people who are going to perform the task.

Directing and Controlling

After instructing people you have to keep a sharp watch over things, it may

possible that sometimes you have to tell them how to use a particular thing. Your

major focus will be to utilize the resources in best way. The direction of using

things properly and controlling the efforts will be an ongoing task which you will

perform.

Feedback Management

Feedback management system will help you in making all required changes on

run time, which will play a crucial role. You have to check the actual performance

with the set standards and match the differences.

Page 8: Packaging guide

What else will be required?

Transportation: As per the requirements, you have to make sure you are not

arranging an over/under sized transport.

Man Power: Again man power will be arranged as per the need this will be done

in the initial phase. You have to analyze how much man work your packaging will

involved. Either it will be required just for shifting purpose or you will need it in

packaging purpose as well.

Packaging Supplies: This is something which you can’t forget you have the

product you know where it will be sent but how you will do the packaging?

Without packaging products which will help you in packing things. Some general

packaging things are like
