POVERTY
What is poverty??????It is the inability to get minimum consumption
requirements for life, health and efficiency.The term poverty is used in two ways:1. Absolute Povertyi) calories intake (2400 calories in rural area and
2100 in urban area)i) Minimum consumption expenditure criteria(for
rural areas the national poverty line is estimated at Rs 816 per capita per month and Rs. 1,000 per capita per month in urban areas. )
2.Relative Poverty (comparative analysis)-Relative poverty is defined contextually as economic inequality in the location or society in which people live.
Poverty in India - Statistics- 50% of Indians don’t have proper shelter;
- 70% don’t have access to decent toilets (which inspires a multitude of bacteria to host their own disease party);
- 35% of households don’t have a nearby water source;
- 85% of villages don’t have a secondary - Over 40% of these same villages don’t have proper roads connecting them.
