What's CliqTags?
• Easy to use and ready to go cloud basedsolution for mobile information and interaction
• Nothing to install, just publish
• Support for all popular mobile access methods, like SMS, e-mail, QR codes, beacons, geofencing, NFC tags etc
• Complementing apps that can be branded
• Useful for marketing, information, interaction, education, productivity
Introduction
• All use cases are real, in the sense that they are either...• commercially implemented
• presented to customers as working examples
• for the purpose of sales
• All are available publicly
• The presentation is mainly intended as a discussion paper, and is therefore focused on visual examples
• Most use cases are Swedish (and in Swedish), but hopefully the pictures speak for themselves
Terms
• Beacons• Small radio transmitters that are optimized for detection by mobile phones
• Sends an identity or link continuously, that an app can detect
• Works best indoors, but also at entrances, with a precision down to 0.5 m
• Geofencing• Uses location via GPS, Wi-Fi or cell networks
• You frame the areas that should be considered geofences
• Works best outdoors, with a precision of approx. 10 m
• In both cases associations are made between mobile-adapted content and beacons/geofences via CliqTags
Areas of use
• Malls/shops (offerings, surveys, contests...)
• Logistics (checkpoints, truck IDs...)
• Healthcare (identifying equipment...)
• Events and conferences (event info, interaction...)
• Commute (offerings, entertainment...)• Airplanes, trains, buses, including ports/stations
• Museums (info about items, map...)
• Security (checkpoints, ID of guards...)
• Outdoors, e.g. zoos, landmarks (location info...)
Digital signage and beacons
• An especially interesting area within retail and commute
• Beacons (USB) are mounted on the screens
• Offerings are shown on the screen and "downloaded" to the phone
• The customer then gets to interact with the information
Business cases
• Some really large installations in USA
• SITA keeps a directory of publicly accessible beacons at major airports in USA (so far)
• Also, larger installations in retail chains• E.g. Macy's has supposedly installed 4000+ beacons
for in-shop information
• Mobile World Congress used beacons for visitor information with a custom app
• Still mostly for marketing in retail• At least that's what magazines write about• Internal use is likely there as well
An existing use case
• On buses in Mexico
• Digital signage screens show marketing messages
• USB beacons on the screens signal the users' phones, "transferring" the content
• Geofencing is used around bus stations for nearby offerings
Other discussed scenarios
• At zoos around the enclosures
• At furniture groups and information desks at a large furniture provider (both internal and customer use)
• For corporate games (e.g. treasure hunts)
• For city tours
• For different forms of commute: bus, train, plane
• Beacons and geofencing can be used simultaneously, for different purposes and locations
Advice
• Be careful with forced advertising• Combine practical information with advertising
• Don't just go for transient proximity marketing and push notices• There are lots of vertical applications in healthcare, logistics, and general
productivity
• Yet, an important opportunity in marketing is as a complement to digital signage, as described earlier
• Long-lasting installations with practical value for both the customer and their customers• More money over time
• Don't just think static installations• There are applications where beacons move around: cars, buses, shopping
trolleys etc
