UF gallery shows alumni exhibition
There will be a platinum-covered
plantain inside University Gallery’s first-
ever alumni exhibition.
The exhibition will be held at the
University Gallery, located on Southwest
13th Street in Building B of the Fine Arts
complex, from today until Oct. 8. The
exhibition will feature 26 artists, who are
all graduates of the UF School of Art
and Art History.
Richard Heipp, a UF professor at the
School of Art and Art History, said he
planned the event to celebrate the
gallery’s 50th anniversary.
"This is one of the most complicated and
comprehensive shows we’ve done in
University Gallery," Heipp said.
Heipp said planning the exhibit was a
huge undertaking because some of the
pieces, which came from around the
world, are large and almost reach the
ceiling. "There’s one piece that actually
came from Beijing to New York to us,"
he said. "There’s work from California.
There’s work from Texas. There’s work
from North Carolina. And it all had to be
shipped here."
Kelly Hernandez, a 21-year-old UF fine
arts senior with an emphasis in painting,
said she is excited to go to the exhibit.
It shows current art students possible
post-graduate career opportunities, she
said.
"I know that we’ve had a lot of great
artists come out of UF," Hernandez said.
"And I am excited to see what they’ve
been doing the last couple of years and
where their careers have gone, so then I
can kind of see where I am going, too."
