What is European union?• The European Union (EU) is an

economic and political union of 27 member states that are located primarily in Europe.

• The EU operates through a system of supranational independent institutions and intergovernmental negotiated decisions by the member states.

• The founding members of the Community were Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and West Germany.

• In 1957, the six countries signed the Treaty of Rome, which extended the earlier cooperation within the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC)

• Created the European Economic Community, (EEC) establishing a customs union.

• They also signed another treaty on the same day creating the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) for cooperation in developing nuclear energy. Both treaties came into force in 1958

Accession of Turkey to the European Union• Turkey's application to accede to

the European Union was made on 14 April 1987

• Turkey has been an associate member of the European Union (EU) and its predecessors since 1963..

economy in the European Union.• Economy of Turkey increased after

1980, and population increased in the same direction.

• Over 70 million people live in turkey.• The majority of young and middle

aged.• Workmanship is cheap. And It’s

cheaper than EU labor.

• In most EU countries, the poor and sparsely populated. (Greece, Spain, Southern Cyprus).

• Many EU countries, large economy presented by the countries supported. (Germany, France)

Politicaly Reasons• Geographically, Turkey's location

is very strategic.• Turkey, connects Europe, Asia

and Arabic peninsula. Turkey acts as a intermediary on trade agreements.

• There is a stable structure with rigid and moderate policies. Turkey helps the diplomatic crisis of other countries.

Militarily Reasons• Turkey has got almost powerful

military and military system in the world. Turkish army provides the security and peace

• After WWI and WWII, The people of European Union began to be afraid of terrorism.

• If Turkey is accepted, the international peacekeeping force, minimizing international terrorism in Europe
