1760This is the time right after the French & Indian war. the King had to tax the Colonists because of the war. When he taxed certain papers he put a little stamp on it and the colonist had to pay for that stamp on that paper. The king had made the colonists mad. He had stamped playing cards. They used playing cards all the time. The colonists said “no taxation without representation!” what that meant was don’t tax us without a say in the government.

March 5th 1770The Boston Massacre was pretty scary. What had happened was a Colonist was teasing a British solider and then a DIFFERENT British solider told the British solider that was getting teased to fire his gun. Someone threw a club and it knocked down a Colonist. After that snowballs were thrown at the British soldiers. The soldiers cursed them then shot their guns. The people who died were Crispus Attucks, Samuel Gray, Samuel Maverick, and James Caldwell.

After the king taxed the colonists he stopped most of them… The only one left was tea taxes. The Sons Of Liberty said they should do something about it. Some dressed up as Indians and some of them didn’t dress up as Indians. They went on the Dartmouth witch had lots of tea and goods. What they did was take the captain and crew below deck and dump tea into the harbor. They had ruined thousands of dollars worth of tea that night and when the king found out… Boy was he mad he was, in fact SO mad he closed the port. This was bad ‘cause Boston is a trading city so when he closed the port the colonists couldn’t trade their goods and people who were in the harbor could not go back into Boston so they would have to go and stay somewhere else until they opened it up.

April 19th 1775These were the fights that the Minutemen fought. They fought in Lexington and the general said “stand your ground! Do not fire unless fired upon!” they did not actually get fired upon until… {BOOM} a colonist shot his gun. That shot was the shot heard ‘round the world. That shot had started the American revolution. People had thought that the shot heard ‘round the world had happened in Concord.

July 4th 1776The Declaration Of Independence was and still is the most important document in the whole world because it had stopped the American Revolution. Everybody thought that John Adams should write it but instead he said that Thomas Jefferson should write it. He said that he would do his best and sort of did. So that was the day that the declaration of independence was actually adopted. (notice that it’s on the 4th of July?)
