MEDIA STUDIES
Take Media Studies if you… Are interested in films, TV
programmes, advertising, the news, videogames, web design, blogging etc?
Want to be able to think critically and analytically about the media you interact with on a daily basis
Are interested in producing your own media products.
Are predicted at least Cs in five GCSE subjects?
Don’t take Media Studies if you think… It’s all about running around
school with a camera. It’s easy. The practical element is
50%…that means 50% is written theory.
I won’t have to do much writing…ideally you should have at least a C in English in order to cope with the written essays.

Module 1 – Practical Coursework Worth 50% of the AS grade. This is a coursework unit in which
you produce your own media text. You will create your own media text
using digital editing software. You will research, plan and evaluate
your media text in the form of a blog, website, podcast, or a DVD with extras.
Module 1 – Practical Coursework
Possible Tasks: The front page, contents and double
page spread of a new music magazine.
The titles and opening of a new fiction film.
Module 2 – Key Media Concepts Worth 50% of the AS grade. This is a 2 hour exam in which you
are required to answer 2 questions.1. Analyse an unseen extract from a TV
Drama2. One question based upon a case
study of a specific media industry
