QNET’s New Initiative to Grow the Egyptian Economy
Prominent Asian direct selling company, QNET Limited, has launched a new program to enable local manufacturers in Egypt sell their products exclusively through QNET’ e-commerce platform. In its effort to expand its business scope, QNET recently launched the Merchant Program which aims to help small local manufacturers to market their products to a larger audience through the power of QNET’s online store and distributor networks.“QNET is committed to promote Egyptian products and to help support its small-medium entrepreneurs, who otherwise have no other way to distribute and market their products. It is our way of boosting the economy and to help create jobs for the people.
“As Egypt's Small Medium Enterprise (SME) sector, which accounts for about 80 per cent of the economy, showing signs of a rebound, it is timely indeed for us to enable SMEs to realize benefits such as enhanced productivity and reduced costs,” said Mr. Dave Osh, Chief Executive Officer of QNET Limited.
QNET has already signed its first Merchant Program contract with Egyptian company, Bell and Belle, a SME based in Alexandria, to distribute its range of skin care products.
The SME Company had just got the Ministry of Health’s approvals and product registration to commence business. The products are all composed of natural ingredients. Bell and Belle will leverage on QNET’s Independent Representatives (IRs) in Egypt to market its products.ell and Belle owner, Mrs Mona Gaber said it is a great opportunity to market her company’s products through QNET not only in Egypt, but also to the entire Middle East/North Africa (MENA) region if proven success.
“We are delighted to seal this arrangement with QNET, which is one of the fastest growing direct selling companies in the world. We have full confidence in the direct selling business as it helps us to save costs like advertising and promotion and return those savings to consumers by selling at reasonable prices.
“Our tie-up with QNET is also based on the fact that QNET has got a strong network of IRs in Egypt and the MENA region. They would be able to promote and market our products aggressively and help us grow stronger from a tiny enterprise into a formidable SME in Egypt,” Mrs. Mona Gaber adds

According to Wamda, a platform designed to empower entrepreneurs in the MENA region, the SME sector is critical to the Egyptian economy. It notes that SMEs are responsible for a mammoth 98 per cent of the country’s total economic activity and they provide nearly 80 per cent of total value added to the country’s economy.
Employment opportunities created by small-to-medium-sized enterprises, says Wamda, also account for over 65 per cent of the entire Egyptian workforce. In a country which has a steadily rising population, millions of youngsters entering the workplace every year, and an ongoing struggle against unemployment, it’s a sector that needs critical support.
QNET invites other product manufacturers to sell their products and services through QNET in Egypt with potential export opportunities. The merchant program is opened for domestic products “Made in Egypt” and registered in Egypt. Products are expected to improve well-being and follow the product criteria of “life enhancing” with full exclusivity to QNET. Interested merchants can contact QNET directly at [email protected]

QNET welcomes a ban on Pyramid Companies in Egypt
QNET welcomes a ban on Pyramid Companies in EgyptQNET’s Zaheer Merchant: The need of the hour is appropriate legislation
The recent investigation by the Public Funds Authority into the 8 companies allegedly involved in pyramid schemes in Egypt and the subsequent media reports around it, has created a great deal of confusion around marketing concepts such as direct selling (DS), multi level marketing (MLM), Network Marketing (NM) and pyramid schemes. Zaheer Merchant, Director of Corporate Affairs for QNET helps explain the difference and stresses on the need for clear legislative guidelines to regulate the industry in Egypt. 1. What do the terms Direct Selling, MLM and NM mean and how are they different from each other?ZM: Direct Selling is simply the marketing of products and services directly to consumers in a face-to-face manner, away from a retail location. Direct selling encompasses a variety of distribution methods; Multilevel Marketing and Network Marketing are two types of distribution and compensation methods. 2. Network marketing and pyramid companies are currently under the scanner in Egypt. What does QNET have to say about it?ZM: Based on media reports, it is clear that there are several misconceptions about this industry in Egypt. This is why QNET strongly advocates the creation of a legislation to govern this industry. Fast growing economies such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan and Singapore all have a specific statute that regulates, and more important, facilitates direct selling. We are more than willing to help the relevant ministry with draft guidelines based on our experience in other legislated markets.
Globally Direct Selling is an approximately US$154 billion industry with more than 91 million people involved it as distributors of a wide range of products and services. The socio-economic impact of this industry is well documented in many countries especially in reducing youth unemployment. 3. If the government decides to ban pyramid companies, how will it affect QNET?ZM: We would welcome a ban on pyramid companies. Genuine Direct Selling Companies like QNET will benefit if pyramid schemes are banned. Currently, the lack of guidelines and legislation leads to genuine DS companies being bracketed with pyramid schemes that disguise themselves as direct selling companies, which negatively impacts the entire industry. 4. How can people tell the difference between a legitimate Direct Selling company and a pyramid scheme? ZM: As a general guide, here are 6 ways to tell the legitimate direct selling companies apart from pyramid schemes.Direct Selling is NOT a “get-rich-quick scheme”.Direct Selling may be very lucrative, but it is also a tough business. Right from the start, genuine businesses will tell you that the results happen only if you put in the time and effort. Any company that promises you an easy way to riches should be regarded with caution. QNET for example, has a detailed earnings disclaimer available in its website and marketing materials. Direct Selling companies deliver quality products or services.Pyramid schemes have no legitimate products or services. Good direct selling companies dedicate substantial resources to research and development to create quality products that are of actual use to people. QNET offers more than 30 different products in 9 different product categories.
QNET welcomes a ban on Pyramid Companies in Egypt
Direct selling companies have restrictions in their compensation plan.Reputable direct selling companies limit the number of people who can earn a commission through sales. This is to level the playing field for its members. In a pyramid scheme, the “up lines” or the ones at the top make all the money, while the “down lines” or the ones at the bottom, and lag behind due to late participation. Direct Sellers do not earn commission solely through recruitment.Recruiting new members is NOT a requirement for real direct sellers to earn a commission. Legitimate direct selling companies are structured to reward people for promoting their products. In a pyramid scheme, there is no financial return unless others are successfully enrolled.Genuine Network marketing opportunities have a solid training system.Direct selling companies place great emphasis on training their network marketers. Companies that genuinely care about their distributors and want them to succeed are the ones that provide business tools and training to help them grow their business. Organisations such as QNET have qualified trainers equipped with the expertise and experience to help their members better understand the business and products and serve as mentors and motivators to grow the business.Direct selling companies have proper policies and procedures, as well as ethical marketing codes.Genuine direct selling companies aim to achieve sustainable growth by fostering a culture of ethical marketing. QNET places great emphasis on an ethical code of conduct by itsindependent representatives and provides them with a detailed set of guidelines on professional marketing as well as its policies and procedures. It is hope that based in the general guidelines above, Egypt will be able to draft concise guidelines and laws regulating this valuable industry. Additionally, it will be of significant benefit that Egypt has a direct selling association associated to the rest of the world.
