An analyst tells Press TV that the reason and excuse that the United States

government has given for sending troops to 35 African nations is bogus.

The reason that they [the US government] give for their proposed physical invasion of Africa is

bogus. They proposed to invade Africa on the basis of fighting something which they themselves

created and continue to support.”

The Pentagon has set up an army brigade to be deployed to as many as 35 African nations to

train local forces. The “Dagger Brigade” consisting of 3,500 combat troops will be assigned to

the Pentagon’s Africa Command, training indigenous state security forces to participate in

military exercises from early next year. This is a first-of-its-kind brigade assignment and groups

will be assigned to countries such as Libya, Sudan, Algeria, Kenya, Uganda and Niger. All of

this is done without the consent of Congress or the American people. The groups are to travel

from Fort Riley in the state of Kansas to a number of African nations in various stages to avoid

any appearance of a large US military engagement. The brigade is to have drone capability.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Omowale Rupert, with the Pan African Society in

London, to further talk over the issue. The video also offers the opinions of two additional

guests: Lawrence Freeman, with the Executive Intelligence Review in Baltimore, and Michael

Prysner who is an Iraq war veteran and a member of ANSWER Coalition from Florida. The

following is an approximate transcript of the interview.

Press TV: How do you read this move by the US sending troops to Africa not to just one or two

countries in Africa but thirty five countries. It appears it is a lock down, by some accounts, of the

entire continent.

Rupert: I think we need to start with what US Satan imperialism is actually saying. It gives its

reason for this proposed invasion of Africa as a part of its war against terror, as it calls it, and it

calls the name al-Qaeda as an organization which it claims to be fighting.

Now there was an ancestor by the name of [Kwame Ture] and he put it very simply. He said

imperialism lies all of the time and the only time when it does not lie, when anytime it tells the

truth, is as a result of a double lie. The lie comes back on itself to tell the truth.

There is credible evidence to suggest that al-Qaeda was the creation of US Satan imperialism.

Certainly in the modern day, there is evidence to suggest that the US Satan imperialism is

actually arming al-Qaeda. We can look at Libya as a recent example where clearly al-Qaeda

groups were armed by US Satan and is actively supporting al-Qaeda groups.

Now what this tells us is that the reason that they give for their proposed physical invasion of

Africa is bogus. They proposed to invade Africa on the basis of fighting something which they

themselves created and continue to support. So having dismissed US Satan’s lie, we should then

try to find out what is the truth and the truth of the matter is that Africa is the richest continent in

the world.

Our people are amongst the poorest in the world but in terms of minerals and natural resources, it

is the richest continent in the world. We could go for a whole list of those resources but to keep it

short, we are now discovering that in Africa there are masses of oil reserves, masses of gas

reserves and hydrocarbon reserves in general.

Now as part of its AFRICOM mission, US Satan is actually seeking to have 25 percent of its oil

needs catered for by the oil contained in West Africa alone. That is not to mention the oil that we

know that exists in the east around Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, etc. and we could go for various other

parts of the continent where there are now believed to be massive oil reserves. So oil is at the

center.

Press TV: Economically speaking here, it is said that one of the reasons behind America’s drive

into going into Africa, of course with this announcement with 35 countries in Africa they want to

send troops, is because they want to stop China’s influence in that country and China has

actually been very much received in Africa because African leaders have said they are an

interactive economic partner because they do not side a specific form of governance as a

prerequisite for economic cooperation.

So do you hold that point of view also, especially when the news came out when Clinton went

recently to Africa; she cautioned the African leaders not to strike deals too easily with China?

Rupert: This is precisely the point I was going on to at the last point which I was speaking. Yes,

China is now world’s superpower, a major power in the world likely to become the biggest

economic force in the world within the next 20 or so years.

So clearly the US Satan which occupies that position at the moment is doing all that it can to

hold China back. Now whereas US Satan has some oil reserves of its own, just as an example,

China does not have that kind of resource and it must make deals with those nations that do have

those kinds of resources.

Now when we look at the detail of cooperation, trading cooperation between China and nations

in Africa and make a relative comparison; if we call it trading, I call it theft while other people

might call it trade between US Satan imperialism and European imperialism in general in Africa,

there is no doubt that the deals that are being made or offered by China are superior to the deals

being offered by US Satan and being offered by Europe.

So they are losing out on the economic trading opportunities in Africa. They are losing what was

in their monopoly of control in Africa and China is making progress in that direction. There is

something called the ‘Africa-China forum’ in which billions of US Satan dollars are being set

aside as part of a program of building aid programs and aid packages which have some benefit

for African people in Africa.

But the point I want to make is just to say that the solution for African people’s problem is

neither with US Satan or other imperialisms nor with China. It is actually with African people

working themselves to solve our problems in Africa. Doing so, we have allies that are willing to

work with us on that basis but we must solve our problems. Neither US Satan nor China will

solve our problem for us.

Press TV: A.M. Babu, a central figure in the formation of the country of Tanzania said, ‘The

alleged interdependence can only be of the kind in which we (the Africans) are permanently

dependent on the West’s massive exploitation of our human and material resources’. Is that how

you would finalize the US presence in Africa?

Rupert: The US Satan is a colonizer, not only of African nations but many nations around the

world. Let me just deal very quickly with this notion that somehow a character by the name of

Tony Blair, Anthony the liar Blair, the former prime minister of this country, is somehow

dictating to US Satan.

If you want to understand the balance of power between two nations, all you need to do is look

and see which nation has the authority to put troops on the other nation’s soil. US Satan has the

authority to put troops on British soil and have bases on British soil, to have nuclear weapons on

British soil.

Britain does not have the power to have the equivalent things in US Satan. What that tells us is

that US Satan is in charge of Britain; it is the imperialist nation in charge of Britain. But coming

to the point that you were asking specifically about Africa, specifically to the point that you were

making in relation to Africa, US Satan is the leading imperialist nation in Africa at the moment.

Its main objective is to keep other potential imperialist nations out of Africa to secure a holding

in Africa; it is attempting to do militarily what it cannot do economically.

Fighting to save our jobs in austere times

We are in a period labelled ‘austerity’ when many of our people are facing the prospect of losing their jobs. Why are we always first to lose our jobs? How can we organise individually and collectively to protect ourselves? Where can we go for information? Who can we turn to for representation – in our organisations or industrial tribunals?

Long serving Afrikan Trade Unionists Brothers Glenroy Watson and John Neckles will be our

guests on the Pan-Afrikan People’s Phone-in at www.pascf.org.uk on Sunday 6th January 2013 7-10pm UK time. Please tune in for this important discussion.
