Objective: There is global change happening which is transforming society. AIESEC Alumni leaders are present in 152 countries with one million leaders. Agenda: With the agenda we want to accomplish our objective: create global business by connecting entrepreneurs, investors and professionals around the world. ISUM events can last from 1-3 days. You can create an agenda composed of different content, including panels, educational presentations, startup pitches, investment competitions, keynotes, investor roundtables, mentoring sessions, networking, etc. We advise you to build a program which complements what other entrepreneurial organizations are doing in your city – creating new knowledge, doing something different and ensuring good attendance. If you wan to have a look to past agendas, don´t hesitate to visit the Past Event section.

How to Organize an ISUM? The first step: Contact your national or regional alumni association and let them know of your interest to organize an ISUM. Develop a written program plan, agenda, venue and budget. Then contact AAI by emailing Rolando Cruzado (Global ISUM Manager AAI). Suggestions: As is shown in the figure below, you should follow a group of 7 tasks to deliver an excellent ISUM. However, you can choose the style, time, and use of resources as you consider best for your local team. In addition, you can consider the duration and resources that works better (the agenda is very flexible to each country and circumstance). An ISUM can be organized in two months or even in a year, and each Organizing Committee (OC) has the flexibility to define it.

#1: What are the benefits of organizing an ISUM? It’s a great way to engage and activate your local, national and regional AIESEC Alumni network You can strengthen AIESEC Alumni as a thought leader to different stakeholders including

entrepreneurs, investors, service providers, universities, private companies and government. You will foster AIESEC values and goals, including International leadership, entrepreneurship and

networking.

#2: How will AAI will help me in the organization? AIESEC Alumni International’s team is eager to help you with: Global promotion through our communicational channels: newsletters, blog, email, and social

media Advice on all aspects of your program include design, implementation, agenda, speakers, etc. Support in communications with international organizations to cut down distances and accelerate

national cooperation. In addition you will be part of the global network of alumni involved in organizing an ISUM (“ISUM

evangelists”) so you will be in contact with colleagues motivated like you in the startup field. #3: Is ISUM only for AIESEC Alumni members or can other interested parties can participate? ISUM is for everyone who is interested in the startup field (see FAQ #1) thus, anyone with an idea can pitch their startup or participate. Investor pitches can be divided between early-stage startups (idea or concept stage) or more advanced companies (e.g. projects with a prototype, at the growth stage or even companies that are looking for international partners to expand their markets)

#4: How should I set up the Organizing Committee? You should have an AIESEC Alumni Organizing Committee President (OCP) and an awesome team to execute the tasks of the organization. The team can be composed by AIESEC Alumni, but you can strengthen it with volunteer members from AIESEC, which is an excellent way to bring alumni and AIESEC together. The more alumni you involve in the OC, the more benefit you will bring to your alumni association. You can also consider co-organizing an ISUM with other organizations if you consider it will help strengthen the event and audience. #5: What types of speakers should I choose for the agenda? Consider notable people who are recognized leaders in the startup community, such as leaders of startups (founders, co-founders, directors or managers), leaders specialized in entrepreneurship from any university, government leaders who boost innovation, technology and/or startups and leaders who support investing in startups (angel investors, venture capitalists, private equity funds or government funds) #6: What kind of venue should I consider? You can consider any place that will attract people and which is professional and comfortable. Consider venues that can be donated or sponsored such as a university conference room, a corporate conference facility or a government conference center. Note: the more easy the access for delegates, the more attendances you will have. #7: What type of partners or sponsors should I approach? You can consider partners such as companies, organizations or universities to donate funds, supplies or a conference room for your meeting. They can help you in many ways such as: publicity (sponsors), organization (co-organizers), investment prizes, awards, etc. Note: Target AIESEC alumni owedcompanies as partners there!

#8: Could I charge a participant fee? Every National Alumni Association should consider the best fee that works best for them. This can be an excellent revenue generator for your organization, when done properly. Revenue can come from both program participation fees as well as sponsorships. #9: Is there a place where I can find further information such as photos, documents, or even more people who have organized an ISUM in the past? Yes, feel free to contact us at AAI and we’ll put you in contact with the right resources to help you with your project. #10: Should we partner with AIESEC on this program? Absolutely, if they are interested. You can do the following things: Invite MCPs to represent AIESEC and participate in the agenda. Give scholarships to AIESEC members so they can participate in an ISUM Invite volunteers from AIESEC to support the OC Use sponsors and scholarships from companies to benefit AIESEC members Promote specialized traineeships through AIESEC such as technical, social or management exchanges.

…In general, you should look for synergies with AIESEC in any way that you can!
