INDIVIDUALS WITH LINGUISTIC/VERBAL INTELLIGENCE

• Have a highly developed capacity to use words effectively • The ability to persuade, remember information, & explain • They tend to have excellent writing skills • Are good at expressing themselves, while playing with

words• May have a knack for learning languages • Probably read a lot & learnt to read fairly easily • As a child they probably picked up vocabulary quickly • This IQ type understand things when they are put into

words• Authors, poets, journalists, speakers & newsreaders show

high degrees of linguistic intelligence

VISUAL/SPATIAL INTELLIGENCE refers to• Highly developed capacity to see the visual world

accurately • Transform, manipulate & re-create mental images• People with this intelligence think in 2 & 3

dimensions• “Think in pictures” showing an idea rather than

explaining it • This ability is relevant in daily activities like

reading maps• Practical tasks like re-arranging furniture • They can probably find their way in a strange city • They tend to find mazes easy & finish a jigsaw

puzzle quickly• It is also likely that they can draw well at an early

age• Spatial intelligence is valuable in occupations like

mechanics, engineering, technical & design fields

MUSICAL/AUDITORY Intelligence covers• The ability to recognise, pitches, tones & rhythms • This type of intelligence is recognised in

environments where noises are important• or instruments are readily available • or with activities that require rhythm, such as

singing or dancing• This IQ type may hum or sing to themselves as

children • Could pick up a tune the first time they hear it • They have a knack for distinguishing a sounds &

could match it• Playing an instrument is probably easy for these

people• They are particularly sensitive to sounds from the

environment• People with high musical intelligence include

composers, conductors, musicians, music critics & instrument makers

BODILY-KINAESTHETIC learners are• Physical Individuals with these skills have

exceptional coordination & motor skills • Tend to learn best via “hands on” activities • This intelligence is awakened through physical

movement • Best expressed in areas of sport, physical

exercise, or craft• This type of intelligence express themselves

though their body • They tend to handle objects with ease and are

agile • As children this IQ type may have been chastised

for being fidgety or unable to sit still for long • Athletes, dancers, actors, builders and crafters

are examples of people with high bodily-kinaesthetic intelligence

LOGICAL/MATHEMATICAL intelligences tend to • Be good with numbers & have excellent reasoning skills • Easily recognise & solve problems, using logical patterns to

categorise, infer, make generalisations & test hypotheses• Be associated with scientific & mathematical thinking • People with this IQ type enjoy playing with abstract ideas • Find it easy to work out numerical problems in their head • Have a talent for thinking sequentially & in rational patterns• Learn best by approaching problems as puzzles to be solved • Scientists, mathematicians, engineers & programmers show
