CATHEDRAL CHAIR REPLACEMENT ≈$180,000

ISSUE: Current Cathedral chairs are near the end of their useful life. The 2012-2014 Repair-A- Chair* appeal stretched the life of the 400 chairs about 5 years.SOLUTION: Purchase 500 new chairs that are smaller, lighter and designed for “stackability.”

VALUE: Smaller chairs will increase Trinity’s programming capacity/ flexibility. Less staff time will be required for set-up/tear-downs.*Repair-A-Chair plaques on current chairs will transferred to the new chairs.

ISSUE: The Cathedral does not have a City of Cleveland occupancy permit. It is “grandfathered in” for now.

SOLUTION:• An application for occupancy

review has been submitted to the City of Cleveland’s Building Department to determine final scope of work.

• Permit would require life safety upgrades, such as emergency lights, lighted exit signs, and manual fire alarms and strobes.

CATHEDRAL DOOR HARDWARE ≈$30,000

ISSUE: Trinity’s massive oak entry door hardware (hinges, pulls, stops, kick plates, locks) is hard to work and unreliable.

SOLUTION: New/restored hardware to match the period (under research) will be installed.

VALUE: Trinity’s doors are preserved using sustainable practices. New hardware will increase security and allow for quicker/safer building exits. Ph

ISSUE: There is no hand railing for the center main doors at the Euclid Avenue step entrance.

SOLUTION:

Install a center hand railing in keeping with the design and materials of the side railings.

VALUE:

A center hand railing will encourage front door use by making it welcoming.

It will increase the safety for both entering and exiting.

SOLUTION:

Remove, repair, replace broken pieces, re-lead, re- cement, glaze, install reinforcing bars, and clean.

VALUE:

Restoration will preserve these artworks crafted by artists including Burnham, Connick, Hardman, Heaton, Tiffany, and Willet.

SOLUTION: Replace the Cathedral’s flat roofs.

VALUE: A new flat roof system will last 30-40 years and will include flashing, insulation, and new decking as necessary.

ISSUE: There is evident exterior masonry deterioration to the: Cathedral Tower; Cathedral North/East/West/South elevations; Cathedral Hall; Parish House and the stone privacy wall adjacent to Euclid Ave. and E. 22nd Street.SOLUTION: Repoint, patch and replace stone, flash and replace capstone sealant, including lead cap covers.

VALUE: The repair will greatly improve the outside appearance, preserve the building and prevent future more costly repairs.

A more accessible , adaptable and configurable platform would better serve our congregation and allow for diverse events.

SOLUTION: Restore the Prospect Garden through landscaping and planting and refreshing the existing features.

VALUE: Trinity’s Columbarium allows members to choose the sanctity of the Cathedral as an enduring place of rest.

ISSUE: The limestone exterior of the Cathedral is soot covered, adding to its heavy presence on the street.SOLUTION:

Clean the exterior stone, remove the ivy/moss and treat to prevent re- growth. Partial cleaning of the north face was done in the 1990s.

VALUE: The Cathedral will shine more brightly and be a good neighbor.

ISSUE: Trinity’s Aeolian-Skinner organ is in storage in Columbus.

SOLUTION: Install the Aeolian Skinner organ purchased in 2011 through a congregational gift with additional pipes donated from the now-demolished Church of the Transfiguration.VALUE: The new organ will allow for a more diverse music program coupled with the existing Flenthrop Organ and be a better support for existing choir and both liturgical/secular music.

When installed, Trinity's Aeolian-Skinner organ console will look very

similar to the above.
