IONOSPHERE AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS

The Ionosphere is a region of the upper , from about 50 km to 450 km altitude, and includes the thermosphere and parts of the mesosphere and exosphere.

IONOSPHERE AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS

The Region of the earth's atmosphere between the stratosphere and the exosphere, consisting of several

ionized layers and extending from about 50 to 250 miles (80 to 400 km) above the surface of the earth.

IONOSPHERE AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS

a. Covers the portion of exosphere, mesosphere and

thermosphere.

b. At day time it can stretch from 60 km up to 1000 km.

c. Consists of D, E and F layer.

d. High concentration of electrons.

e. It controls radio signal effectively.

PHENOMENON IN IONOSPHERE

Process of Ionization in Ionosphere

1.UV rays constantly hit to our atmosphere.

2.The energy radiated by UV rays or other

sources collide with the particles forming the

ionized particles.

3.Radio signal entering to this region, is getting

refracted.

PHENOMENON IN IONOSPHERE

Recombination in this Layer

1. Particles are constantly in motion.

2. In the process they also recombine to get stable.

3. But particles remaining in this layer will be mostly

ionized.
