Benefits Of An Email List

When it comes to making money online most people usually think

of starting a blog or some type of website. While it is obviously a

reasonable option, running and building an efficient email list can

actually be a much more rewarding and profitable stream than

running a blog.

Pros and Cons of Managing an Email List

Pros Cons

Highly Targeted Users Virtually No SEO Benefits

Instantly Reach Followers Lack of Social Interaction

Low Maintenance

Easy Activity Tracking

High Rate of Return

As you can see the pros easily outweigh the cons. Imagine having

a list of users that actually opt-ed in and actually wants to see

what you have to say. That sounds like a high conversion rate to

me. The following will give you a step-by-step guide on

how to start setting up your own email list…

1. Email Management Software

Just like you have to pay web hosting for a website or blog, you

need to find an “email host” for your email management. If you

take anything from this guide remember this: DO NOT CHOOSE

A FREE EMAIL MANAGEMENT SERVICE! I say this from

experience…

I decided to start with a free email management system. I soon quickly

grew the subscriber base to 100 people. I realized the need for auto-

responders (we will cover later), which most free systems do not have.

Once I switched to a premium service, I was required to get all 100 people

to opt-in again. My list went from 100 to 25, and I was required to build it

up again.

Contrary to what you may think there are actually laws that

prohibit spamming. Because of this, you are not allowed to

simply add an email address to your list. What does this mean?

If you want to transfer your email list from a free to paid

management system, then you will have to get all your

subscribers to opt-in again. From experience, I can tell you the

“re-opt-in” rate is very low.

However, once you long into your premium service, you will

quickly realize the vast amount of tools and metrics you are able

to utilize. There are a few good email managers out there, but

the most popular and my favorite is Aweber. I personally use

Aweber, and have not looked back since.

2. Draft Up Ideas

What will your list be about? How will you manage it? What

content will you be pushing? What products will you be

promoting? How often will you send out emails? Will subscribers

sign up for free or do they need to pay?

Just like blogs, newsletter can be run basically the same way.

You post quality articles and insightful information, and then you

throw in some affiliate links or even push your own products. Do

some quick research, and see what related products or services

are out there to promote. Check my recommended list for links

and quality affiliate programs.

3. Turn List Into ATM Machine

I’m sure you are familiar with the general tactic of simply sending

out messages every so-often, so we will not really focus on this.

Instead, there is another way to run a mailing list, creating a

course.

Quickly go back to auto-responders…

Auto-responders are automated, pre-drafted emails that are sent out based

on your parameters. For example, you may elect to send out an email right

after a person subscribes to your list. You might want to welcome them,

thank them, give them some links, or whatever, but it is all done

automatically.

With services like Aweber, you are able to take auto-responders

to the next level by drafting up an unlimited amount of

sequenced emails. A good example of this is a course. Maybe

you want to create a course that will teach some body how to

lose weight within 30 days. You can do this by simply pre-

drafting some auto-responders, set how many days you want

each one to be sent out after that other, and let it all run

automatically.

By throwing in some affiliate links and recommending

them to certain places, you can truly create AUTOMATED

INCOME! Is that not what we all want? Remember everything

you promote should be high quality and add value to the

subscriber. Otherwise you will lose them as a subscriber all

together.

4. Publicize Your List

Having a list is all good and great, but how do you get people to

sign up? There are really too many ways to cover in this little

guide, but I will go over the most popular and efficient methods.

1. Create A Blog – While there are successful lists that lack a

blog, there are also many blog and successful newsletter

combinations. After all, if your subscribers feel like they know

you, then that can only lead to higher conversion rates. If you

have a popular blog, then perhaps consider making it a premium

newsletter. Take my free course, if you are interested in starting

your own blog.

2. Squeeze Page – Very simply squeeze pages are a one page

website with the sole purpose of promoting and getting the visitor

to sign up for your list. These are very simple to set-up and can

be VERY effective. You can find free templates from Mammoth

Creatives.

3. Bribe Them – We all love free stuff, so why not offer something

free. You will see this done with almost every mailing list. For

my stock market newsletter, I give away a free guide on how to

open up your first stock brokerage account. It is a simple PDF,

Page 10: Building Email List

|Step‐By‐StepGuideToBuildingYourEmailList9

and an auto-responder I have set up sends the eBook to the

subscriber as soon as they confirm.

4. Throw Competitions – Make signing up for your newsletter or

course a rule to entering the contest. Sure, they can always

unsubscribe, but if you are list is good enough, then it is more

likely they will stay.

5. Don’t Deviate From The Path

There are basically 2 big errors people make when running an

email list…

1. Spam their subscribers with offers and other non-quality

content.

2. Let the list become in active.

Whatever format, time, or any other settings you choose, do not

deviate from the path. If you only send out emails every other

week, then do not suddenly start sending out emails every other

day. If the topic of your list is how to lose weight, then do not

start sending emails about working from home.

Stay true to the list, and the list will make money for you…
