Hello and welcome to how to install a water pump. Manatee Mobile Marine is owned by Ray Corda and located in Palmetto Florida. In a moment, you will meet his two mechanics, Colin and Armando. They are going to demonstrate how to install a water pump.

Assemble your tools

Remove the upper cowling (engine cover)

Removing the lower cowling (engine cover)
Start to remove the lower engine cover by removing the bolts.
Tools: small, long ratchet90 HP and below: tilt/knuckle socket to loosen the bolt in the back.

Removing the lower cowling (engine cover)
After removing all bolts, it is recommended to have two people remove the lower cowling.

Power Trim & Tilt
Disconnect the power trim & tilt wiring.

The power trim & tilt is disconnected in the photo.

Remove the lower cowling wire connectors
Remove the shift shaft coupler screw.

Trim the motor up
Remember safety!

Alignment
Make a note of the alignment index mark of the anti-cavitation plate.

Remove the anti-cavitation plate

Remove 2 bolts from bottom
Remove 4 more bolts, 2 from each side and remove gear case

Place the gear case on a stand.
After removing all bolts, slide the gear case off and place it on stand.

Remove water pump housing
Remove 4 screws on each corner of water pump housing

Slide the water pump housing off of the driveshaft.
Remove impeller

Remove impeller key

Slide the impeller plate up and off

Impeller Plate Gasket
Sometimes it may be necessary to scrape the water pump base area to remove gasket.

Inspect the housing
Inspect the housing for cracks or melting.

Apply a thin bead of Adhesive 847 in O-ring groove. Be careful not to apply in air bleed groove. Place O-ring in the
groove.

Place cup in housing.The cup locks in place in the housing with a square index tab.

Apply a bead of adhesive to the groove surrounding the
cup.Install O-ring seal.

Coat the water pump base area
Lightly coat the water pump base with a gasket sealing compound.

Install the gasket. Apply compound to the top of the gasket.

Add grease and place impeller key.
Align impeller key with impeller slot.

Slip the new impeller over the drive shaft and key.

Water Pump
Assemble your water pump housing according to your particular pump’s instructions.

Slide the newly assembled housing
on driveshaft.
Rotate driveshaft clockwise.

Coat the screws with grease before
installing.
Position the coated screws in place.

Tighten the screws

Torque screws 60 – 84 inch lbs.

Apply triple guard grease to driveshaft.

Apply triple guard grease to mounting bolts.

We are now ready to reinstall the lower unit.

Align drive and shift shaft

Align water pump with water tube.

Secure gear case and stabilize by putting one bolt in place.

Start all four bolts.
Tighten 7/16 screws 28-30 ft. lbs.
Tighten 3/8 screws 18-20 ft.

Attach the two additional
mounting bolts. Reattach trim tab.

Connect the Shift Shaft using pliers to ensure it is straight.

Tighten the screw to the shift rod.

Lower Trim Tilt.
Reinstall wire grommet.

Reconnect Trim & Tilt Switch.
Two people: Reinstall lower cowling.

Place muffs and turn on water

Start the engine.
Make sure water is coming out of the tell tale. If not,
turn off engine immediately!

You are finished!
To complete the job, replace the cowling.
