In 2010 a 3-year project was established to enhance language learning for employees. This due to the increased internationalisation process at the university.

The project coordinator established contact with the Linguistics Department and the Language Council of Norway. Also participated in networks with other universities/colleges in Norway.

The Strategy Plan for UiB 2011-2015 is central. Internationalisation and researcher mobility are core elements.

The Action plan for international activities is also important. A long-term goal is to establish a language center and provide tailor-made language courses for employees. Establish a website with language resources. Increase language policy awareness.

The University of Bergen is a young, modern university. Most of its premises are concentrated in the heart of the city of Bergen. There are about 14,500 students enrolled, and 3,200 faculty and staff

The University of Bergen is constantly interfacing with the international environment in order to expand its borders and to explore the world. It is heavily involved in international co-operation in research and education. The university has signed bilateral agreements with universities, research institutions and academic centres of excellence in all parts of the world.

Increased awareness among employees about language learning and need to increase language competence. A broader variety in the portfolio of language courses offered to employees.

It is necessary to evaluate the project and perhaps establish a permanent language center which is connected to the Department of English and the Department of Linguistics. This to secure an academic and research based language learning model in a longer perspective.
