How to Setup Green Screen Studio?

Are you looking for a method how to set up a green screen?

So, go ahead and learn how to best harness the beauty of the green screen technology.

Step 1 – Locate a Big Room

The very first step for the film maker is to locate a big room. The bigger the room, the better are the results.

The shooting might be for a small scene or a commercial, but the actors should have enough space to move around.

Step 2 – Setup Green Screen

Either a cloth can be used for green screen or a wall can be painted green.

If cloth screen is used, place it on an even surface such as a wall & secure it to avoid falling in the mid of the scene. Ensure that the surface of the cloth is flat. For this, stretch out from sides and corners until the wrinkles are removed by hammering nails in the wall.

If a wall has to be painted green, sand the wall first so that it becomes smooth. Then apply paint, first primer coat and then final coat.

To avoid all this hassle, buy green screen backdrop with stand to keep it tidy and portable. It would save a lot of effort and also nobody would ask you about the painted wall or holes in the wall caused due to nails.

Step 3 – Setup Lights

To light green screen studio, strong lights are needed and that too in large numbers. The lights have to be placed on both sides of the screen. The lights should also be placed behind the actor. However, all lights should face the green screen. Place them in a way that the whole screen is one shade of green. There should be no part darker than others.

Place one work light on the top of the screen when shooting indoors. A proper studio umbrella lighting kit helps the chroma key software to separate the subject from the screen, because it makes bolder outline on the subject.

Step 4 – Position the Actor & Camera

Place actor or subject in front of green screen and test the lighting scheme. The actor should not be too close to the screen; otherwise his/her shadow would appear on the screen.

Position the camera where you want to. If filming has to be done with one angle, only one camera is needed. If filming has to be done with multiple angles, play around with lighting to ensure that other cameras do not interfere with lighting scheme.

So, setup green screen and pick up your camera and start making your own movies now using green screen studio kit !
