Food

In my culture we eat a lot food from different countries. Some of the foods we eat started in other places. For example, pizza is from Italy. We eat some Italian foods like pasta and salads. Another cultural food we eat is Asian. Some of those foods are rice, orange chicken, sushi, and miso soup. Sometimes we go out to eat dinner. One of my favorite places is the International Café. We eat healthy. We also eat simple meals because both parents work. Another thing that connects with foods is where we eat. We eat in a dinning room. We sit in chairs and put our food on a table. At the table, we sit in the same seats. Sometimes, often on Friday night, we eat on the couch with TV trays and watch a movie. Both of my parents cook. It often depends on our schedule. This is a little bit from my culture regarding food.

Aspects of Culture

There are many aspects of my culture. Here are some examples. First, there is greetings. We greet people we know with a huge or handshake. If we are meeting people, we also handshake and introduce ourselves. We are more open to others. Another thing is language. I speak English and a little Spanish. While my mom was in Collage, she lived in Argentina. She also speaks Spanish. Finally, the last example, the games and sports we play. Sometimes we have a game night. We play lots of games. We also play sports and are athletic. We do BMX, softball, and soccer . These are a few aspects from my culture.

Clothing

In my culture we wear casual clothing. We wear shirts, skirts, pants ,shorts, socks, and shoes. To work, my dad wears a suit and tie. My mom wears a dress, skirt, or nice pants. To school, we are not super dressed up or fancy, but not sloppy; in between. We don’t have any traditional clothing we wear to ceremonies. We also might war fancy clothing to a nice party or eating dinner at a restaurant. The climate affects what we wear. The weather is quite mild here. In the morning, it tends to be foggy and in the afternoon it clears up. If the weather is like it usually is, we wear short sleeve shirts or T-shirts. With this we wear pants. This is what it’s like in my culture.

Art

There are a few things about Art I want to tell you. First, there is music. My dad likes Rock and Roll and my mom doesn’t really have a favorite. My grandma likes classical music and I like modern music. I started playing violin. My brother and my dad may start guitar. Another thing we have that in the art category is decorations in our home. Some of these things are candles, vases, and lots of pictures. The pictures are of family members. The final thing is dance. When my mom was in Elementary School she did Square Dancing. In Middle School , she was required to learn Ballroom Dancing. Some of these dances were the Fox Trot and Waltz. In High School, my dad did the Disco. I also have learned some Ballroom dancing from my grandma. In First or Second grade I learned a Mexican dance . This is a little Art from my culture.

The Home

In my home, there are places for gathering, sleeping, and there are ways my parents raise me. We gather in the living room. We play board games, play (regular), talk, and read/hangout. In the living room, there is one couch, two arm chairs that spin, and in the center, there is a large wooden chest. In my house my parents teach me lessons. This is because they want to be a polite lady. When we are at the dinner table, we are suppose to sit in our chair, use our utensils and manners. For example, try not to burp, we don’t chew with our mouths open, and we clear our plates after the meal. This is a bit from my home.

Religion

My family is Christian. My parents were raised as Christian scientists. My dad’s mom, my grandmother, teaches me prayers. One of those prayers is The Lords Prayer. While we don’t attend church, we still believe in God. My grandma believes that God can heel pain. Some customs of birth, death, and marriage are that my cousins and I were born at home. This is because my mom didn’t want to take childbirth drugs at a hospital. Customs of death are, when someone dies, the person no longer is in a human body, but their qualities stay. We don’t believe in Heaven or Hell. It’s a stage of mind. Some of the ceremonies or holidays we have are New Year, Valentines Day, Easter, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Christmas. This is my religion.

Conclusion

As you can see, I am 100% American. Some of the things I do are American and other things I do are from other cultures. I acquired my culture by the way I was raised and how my brain was formed. I see the world through American glasses. My mom grew up in Missouri and Kansas. She ate canned or frozen foods. The weather in the Midwest was serious. In the Winter it snowed, the Summer it was humid and warm, in the Fall it was chilly, and in the Spring it rained. My dad grew up here. He ate fresh foods grown in California. The weather was mild throughout the year. This is how my culture was shaped and my parents’ culture. This presentation makes up my culture.
