Citation preview
Young Women Rise (Y We Rise) is a platform that is dedicated to reaching out to young
women in Botswana in addressing issues of gender. We realize that empowerment alone
cannot happen in isolation; hence there is a need for self-understanding by young
women in order to promote active participation in our society. We need to define who
we are. We must define what is good for us and most importantly make our voices
heard! Y We Rise conducts workshops on a wide array of gender issues for different
interested groups.
It is from this backdrop that Y We Rise will be conducting its first Gender awareness
workshop on Gender and Knowledge Management for 20 young women at the
University of Botswana on the 28th of June, 2014. We realize that knowledge
management is a very important aspect in every young woman’s life in as far as gender
dynamics are concerned. The decisions that we make are determined by how much we
know about our society and ourselves.
Our areas of interest for this workshop are around the following topics (but participants
are required to come up with other topics that they need addressed).
• Understanding the term “Gender”: Clearing the misconceptions.
• Exploring what young women think it means to be a woman; their limits and possibilities.
• Dissecting Gendered attitudes towards women in the community (school, workplace,
media, etc) and how to deal with them.
• Defining yourself as a young woman: Who am I?
