SmartDraw Tip: When you select an existing family emergency evacuation plan, the SmartPanel will automatically display a symbol library related to household items such as furniture items like bed, lamps, tables, and chairs. It's important that your evacuation plan accurately represents the elements in your home. It will prove valuable to those involved in the evacuation as well as the rescue.

If you're unable to locate the symbols you need, simply search among the thousands of symbols found in the Symbol Library. Select More in the Symbol Library drop-down menu. In the search field, enter your search criteria. Click Search. Once you've located the appropriate library click Open Library. Then click Close to close the More Symbols window.

Disaster Planning Tip: When creating a disaster plan for your family, it's best to have members of the family involved in the planning process. Involvement increases ownership and buy-in in any process. You may choose to print out the existing Family Disaster Plan form and distribute it to members of the family to complete independently. Then have the family come together to share ideas and collaborate on the final plan. The final step is to rehearse the plan.
