DESCRIPTION

We could all stand do be a little more productive. How many of us spend numerous hours of our work weeks staring into space or letting ourselves get distracted by our televisions, our radios, our co-workers and (of course) Facebook? Most of us probably, especially freelancers such as myself, who are perpetually surrounded by potential distractions. But if you want to make a genuine difference and never again get that feeling after a long day of work that you didn't actually get anything done, you'd probably be surprised how easy it is to catalyse. Here we've taken the 3 most crucial barriers to productivity and underlined a few simple things you can do to avoid them. Emails – How many (important) emails will you actually receive in a day? Probably only a handful, but this doesn't stop many of us from refreshing our email client every 10 minutes (especially if we're expecting a specific message). Limit yourself to checking your email only every hour or download some software that will sort the 'wheat from the chaff' for you. Files – As a freelancer I was constantly spending time looking for files until I created a system that made logical sense. Make sure every file is in a place where it can be accessed in just a few clicks. There is software that can help you with this, but you shouldn't need it as long as you keep everything tidy. Time Management – Managing your time is one of the most important skills you can learn when working as a freelancer. Many of us end up wasting more time than we might realise so the first thing you should do is track exactly how you spend your time on a day-to-day basis and use this information to improve how you manage it. If you're still feeling completely lost, the infographic below includes a list of software that can really help improve productivity, most of which are free to use and all of which will help those who struggle to help themselves.
