Types Of Employment
• Employed
• Self Employed
• Unpaid worker
Employed
• If you earn below £9,440 you wont have tax deducted, anything over will be deducted.
• Employed people are employed under a contract of employment which sets out the terms of conditions of the employment such as working hours holidays and roles and responsibilities.
• As an employee your employer is responsible for deducting tax and national insurance through a pay as you earn scheme
Self Employed
• A person who is self employed will carry out work for more than one company under a contract for employment.
• You are responsible for paying your own tax and national insurance because you run your business.
• You will also incur additional expenses such as cost of liability insurance, rent on premises, equipment costs etc.
• If a company wishes to take legal action against you then you will be required to cover compensation this is personal liability.
Volunteer
• Working on a voluntary basis means no tax or national insurance to pay.
Benefits Of Being Employed
• Guaranteed income.
• Employment benefits (company car, health insurance etc.)
• Holiday pay
• Maternity leave
• Contracted hours
• Someone else gets the work in for you
Cons of Being Employed
• Your wage is consistent and wont change even if you earned a lot of money on a project.
• Daily commute
• You have a set amount of holidays a year
• You’re a cog in a machine and don’t have as much freedom
Benefits Of Being Self employed• Potentially more money
• Contract work available but competition is tough.
• Working hours are governed by clients needs and deadlines
• The freedom to work on different projects for different
companies and the excitement of taking on new projects
Cons of Being Self Employed
• The costs of running your own office rent, insurance, computer and internet costs
• Losing earnings if you take holidays
• No employer security
• Lack of regular secured income and the hassle of sorting your own finances and never having the chance to switch off from your work life
Benefits of Being a Volunteer
• You will meet new people in your field (potential jobs)
• Will get valuable experience in that field

• Time Consuming

If you Work private you might do birthday or wedding shoots.

If you work corporate you might do product photography

If you work film and T.V you may end up working with stills or film posters.
