Why are we releasing a new UI?

There are many reasons behind the new user interface:

• The technical architecture of the old user interface is becoming outdated. Today’s browsers (i.e. Internet explorer, Firefox, Chrome & Safari) are constantly releasing new versions which gradually cease supporting the technical architecture of the old user interface.

• Another reason for the change is the increased use of mobile devices. More and more business users use their mobile or tablet instead of an office desktop or laptop for their daily operative tasks. The new PlanMill 16 UI is responsive and can be run on any modern mobile platform/device.

• In addition, we wanted to bring out an optional appearance for the old “outdated” look of the current UI. As we have renewed the technical backbone of the user interface we now offer the usersan enhanced and modernized user experience.

• The new look has been developed by using Google Material design to give the UI a familiar user experience with a fresh look: all functions and graphical layouts are more in line with other today’s web-based applications.

For the users the biggest change is in the appearance of the UI.

All the familiar fields and the system data can be accessed also in the new interface. In the following sections of the presentation we will go through the basic use of the Planmill system with the focus on the points, menus and features where the use of Planmill differs fromthe old user interface.

What has been changed in the new UI?

Login to PlanMill, click on the arrow next to the name field, and select My page.

Press –button on the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Scroll down to User Settings area.

Select Yes in PlanMill 16 –field, and save your settings.

Move from within an area from page/section to another

Search, notifications and User

After saving the new user settings, the user will have the new UI in use.

Tabs are listed vertically on the left side.

In addition to the available filters:

From the top left-hand corner the left tool bar can be hidden to have more space to work.

In the Old UI the tabs are grouped (if Tab grouping is enabled) in modules in the top of the screen.

In the new UI the same tabs can be found vertically listed under the newly named headers from the left side of the screen. Click on the header title to see the tabs.

Note! The amount of visible tabs depends on the authorization of the user role and the Planmill product in used in the organization. All users do not have all the features shown in this infopack available.

Click on the -icon to hide the navigation!

Notifications and a link to the version note can be found behind the –icon. Click on the bell icon to view them *

*) Indicators and notifications are configured on role level. If you wish to add or remove some of them, please first contact your own power user. Planmill service desk can additionally support with these settings, and edit the dashboard view as wished, if requested separately.

In the old user interface the executable filters were always visible in the top of the screen. In the new UI there is a search field and the filters are shown and hidden by using the -toggle.

Other list view features remain unchanged. The user can add, remove, and change the order of the columns by using the button and export the data into various file formats. Here we use the Project –view as an example but other list views (e.g. Accounts, Contacts, Users..) work in a similar fashion.

In the new UI Time can be found under the title . Time reporting works in a similar way than in the old user interface.

TIMECARD (if in use) is opened and closed by clicking on the button.

The invoice handling features can be found as independent buttons or under the menu. The amount of visible features in the UI depends on the screen size and scaling.

Invoices – and Expenses views are separately listed in the new user interface.

In the new UI the visible row information depends on the scaling and screen size. To see all the row fields, click on the “Down Arrow” icon.

The new user interface is responsive and compatible with most of the modern mobile devices.

Q: When does support for the old user interface end entirely?

A: If support is discontinued, this will be communicated separately in good time.

Q: Why I cannot see the same buttons in the new UI?

A: The amount of buttons visible to the user depends on the scaling and the screen size of the device in use. The user can press the icon to see additional functionalities to use.
