Introduction

IntroductionOur Lord said to Nicodemus:

“ If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? ”

John 3,12

Page 10: Angels in our Midst

10

IntroductionEven though the belief in the existence of angels is universal, the certainty of their ministry requires faith.

Sometimes, like Thomas, we want to believe only what we see, what our senses perceive, and thus, by incredulity, we deprive ourselvesof the consolations and the care that the Lord would like to provide us by the ministry of his angels.

Page 11: Angels in our Midst

11

Jesus’ TeachingsIn reponse to a questionby Nathaniel regardingthe ministry of angels, among other things,Jesus said:

“The angelic hosts are a separate order of created beings; they are entirely different from the material order of mortal creatures, and they function as a distinct group of universe intelligences.

p.1840 §6

Page 12: Angels in our Midst

12

Jesus’ Teachings“Agels are not of that group of creatures called `the Sons of God' in the Scriptures;

“Neither are they the glorified spirits of mortal men who have gone on to progress through the mansions on high.

“The angelic hosts have only a spiritual kinship with the human race. As man progresses in the journey to the Father in Paradise, he does traverse a state of being at one time analogous to the state of the angels, but mortal man never becomes an angel.

p.1840 §6

Page 13: Angels in our Midst

13

Jesus’ Teachings“And many of the angels, while functioning in the government of the Father and the universes of the Sons, are assigned to the service of the human races.

“When I taught you that many of theseseraphim are ministering spirits, I spokenot in figurative language nor in poeticstrains.

“And all this is true, regardless of yourdifficulty in comprehending such matters.

p.1840 §6

Page 14: Angels in our Midst

14

Joy in Heavens“Many of these angels are engaged in the work of saving men, for have I not told you of the seraphic joy when one soul elects to forsake sin and begin the search for God?

“I did even tell you of the joy in the presence of the angels of heaven over one sinner who repents,

thereby indicating the existence of other and higher orders of celestial beings who are likewise concerned in the spiritual welfare and with the divine progress of mortal man.”

Page 17: Angels in our Midst

17

Complementary DefinitionIn the English language there exist an appropriate designation for the angelic hosts (armies):

« MINISTERING SPIRITS »

Signifying « serving, in attendance on someone, providing help and assistance, at the service of the universe (and to us in particular)They are thus mure than simple messengers; They are formidable beings playing a crucial role inthe universe that we gain to know and love.

Page 18: Angels in our Midst

18

Ministering SpiritsAngels are the ministering-spirit associates of the evolutionary and ascending will creatures of all space;

They are also the colleagues and working associates of the higher hosts of the divine personalities of the spheres.

The angels of all orders are distinct personalities and are highly individualized.

The word “Angel”The word “angel" is purposely limited to the designation of those seraphic and associated offspring of the Universe Mother Spirit who are so largely concerned with the operation of the plans of mortal survival.

p.420 §1

Page 24: Angels in our Midst

24

Ministering Spirits of the grand universe are classified as follows:

1. Supernaphim

2. Seconaphin

3. Tertiaphim

4. Omniaphim

5. Seraphim

6. Cherubim & Sanobim

SupernaphimThe ministering spirits of Paradise and the central universe; they are the highest order of the lowest groupof the children of the Infinite Spirit – the angelic hosts.

p.285 §1

Page 27: Angels in our Midst

27

SupernaphimSupernaphim ministering spirits are to be encountered from the Isle of Paradise to the worlds of time and space.

No major part of the organized and inhabited creation is without their services.

They are the skilled ministers to all types of beings who sojourn on Paradise and in the central universe.

p.285 §1, p.290 §1

Page 28: Angels in our Midst

28

SupernaphimPrimary Supernaphim are also placed in command of the seraphic hosts ministering on worlds isolated because of rebellion.

When a Paradise Son is bestowed upon such a world, completes his mission, ascends to the Universal Father,is accepted, and returns as the accredited deliverer of this isolated world, a primary Supernaphim is always designated by the chiefs of assignment to assume command of the ministering spirits on duty in thenewly reclaimed sphere.

p.298 §2

Page 29: Angels in our Midst

29

SeconaphimThe routine ministering work of the superuniverses is performed by the mighty Seconaphim, offspring of the seven Reflective Spirits.

p.179 §9

Page 30: Angels in our Midst

30

SeconaphimLike their parents, these personalities have a faithful recording memory; reflectivity is also a faculty inherentin their nature. The primary Seconaphim, of assignment to the Ancients of Days, are living mirrors in the service of these rulers.Think what it means in the economy of a superuniverse to be able to turn, as it were, to a living mirror and therein to see and therewith to hear the certain responses of another being 1000 or 100,000 light-years distant and to do all this instantly and unerringly.

p.307 §5

Page 31: Angels in our Midst

31

SeconaphinsRecords are essential to the conduct of the universes, broadcasts are serviceable, the work of the Solitary and other messengers is very helpful, but the Ancients of Days from their position midway between the inhabited worlds and Paradise – betweenman and God – can instantly lookboth ways, hear both ways, andknow both ways.

p.307 §5

Page 33: Angels in our Midst

33

TertiaphimThese majestic supernal beings of divine originality and near-supreme versatility are the gift of the Infinite Spirit to the Creator Sons of God.

p.306 §7

Page 34: Angels in our Midst

34

TertiaphimWhen a Michael Son is detached from the parental regime of Paradise and is made ready to go forth on the universe adventure of space, the Infinite Spirit is delivered of a group of one thousand of these companion spirits, accompanying this Creator Son when he embarks upon the adventure of universe organization.

With the appearance of the initial orders of native angelic life, they retire from active service in the local universe and become the liaison ministers between the Creator Son and the Ancients of Days of the superuniverse.

p.306 §8

Page 35: Angels in our Midst

35

OmniaphimOmniaphim, together with a host of unrevealed personalities, constitute an efficient, direct, centralized, but far-flung system of advisoryand administrative co-ordinationof all the grand universe of things and beings.

They are not directly concernedwith the ascendant scheme ofmortal progression.

p.306 §7

Page 36: Angels in our Midst

36

ArchangelsFrom Greek arkhe “command”and latin aggelos “messenger ”, thisterm signifies “Chief of Angels ”.

Archangels are dual-origin beingspart of the “Sons of God” familyof universe ministering spirits.

They are the highest type of high spirit being produced in large numbers in a local universe.

p.331 §18

Page 37: Angels in our Midst

37

Archangel MinistryArchangels are one of the few groups of local universe personalities who are not normally under the jurisdiction of Gabriel.

They are not in any manner concerned withthe routine administration of the universe, being dedicated to the work of creature survivaland to the furtherance of the ascending career of the mortals of time and space.

p.408 §5

Page 38: Angels in our Midst

38

Exceptionally, divisional headquarters of the Archangelshas been maintained on a small and apparently insignificant inhabited world called URANTIA.

It is this unusual fact that soon arrests the attention of extra-Nebadon student visitors, and then ensues the revelation ofMichael's bestowal on Urantia and their immediately quickened interest in you and your lowly sphere.

Nebadon’s HeadquartersDo you grasp the significance of the fact that your lowly and confused planet has become a divisional headquarters for the universe administration and direction of certain archangel activities having to do with the Paradise ascension scheme?

This undoubtedly presages the future concentration of other ascendant activities on the bestowal world of Michael and lends a tremendous and solemn import to the Master's personal promise:

“I will come again."p.409 §1

Page 40: Angels in our Midst

40

The World of ArchangelsThe seventh group of the encircling Salvington worlds, with their associated satellites, is assigned to the Archangels.Sphere number one and all of its six tributary satellites are occupied by the personality record keepers. This enormous corps of recorders busy themselves with keeping straight the record of each mortal of time from the moment of birth up through the universe career until such an individual leaves for the superuniverse regime.

p.409 §4

Page 41: Angels in our Midst

41

The World of ArchangelsIt is on these worlds that personality records and identification sureties are classified, filed, and preserved during that time which intervenes between mortal death

and the hour of reperson-alization, the resurrectionfrom death.

Facts aboutSeraphim

Page 44: Angels in our Midst

44

Seraphic OriginThe Creator Son and the universe representation of the Infinite Spirit collaborate in the creation of a large number of Sons and other universe personalities.Following the completion of this united effort, the Son engages in the creation of the Material Sons, the first of the sex creatures, while the Universe Mother Spirit concurrently engages in her initial solitary effort at spirit reproduction. Thus begins the creation of the seraphic hosts of a local universe.

p.418 §4

Page 45: Angels in our Midst

45

Continuous GenerationSeraphim are created by the Universe Mother Spirit and have been projected in unit formation

41472 at a time

p.418 §5

Seraphim are still being periodically created; the universe of Nebadon is still in the making.

The Universe Mother Spirit never ceases creative activity in a growing and perfecting universe.

46

Angels are RealAngels do not have material bodies, but they are definite and discrete beings;

They are of spirit nature and origin.

Though invisible to mortals, they perceive you as you are in the flesh without the aid of transformers or translators.

p.419 §1

Page 47: Angels in our Midst

47

Not Reproductive BeingsThough seraphim are very affec-tionate and sympathetic beings, they are not sex-emotion creatures.

“Angels are a direct creation, andthey do not reproduce themselves”

They are much as you will be on the mansion worlds, where you will “neither marry nor be given in marriage but will beas the angels of heaven."

p.419 §2

Page 48: Angels in our Midst

48

Male or Female?Nevertheless, in dealing with sex creatures it is our custom to speak of those beings of more direct descent from the Father and the Son as the sons of God,while referring to the children of the Spirit as the daughtersof God.

p.419 §2

Page 49: Angels in our Midst

49

How Different are They? The seraphim are all fairly uniform in design.

From universe to universe, they show a minimum of variation; they are the mostnearly standard of all spirittypes of personal beings.

Their various orders consti-tute the corps of the skilledand common ministers ofthe local creations.

p.418 §3

Page 50: Angels in our Midst

50

Angel NamesAll seraphim have individual names;

Being part of the family of “Daughters of God”,Angels are, therefore, commonly designated by feminine pronouns on the sex planets.

Some of them are known by the names :

– Loyalatia – Galantia

– Manotia – Gavalia

– Solonia

p.583 §4

Page 52: Angels in our Midst

52

Dans la brume…

Urantians have often become confused concerning the nature of the Universal Father since the words and acts of all his associates and subordinates have been so generally attributed to him.

Page 53: Angels in our Midst

53

Shared EmotionsAngels intellectually understand the mode of mortal life, and they share all of man's nonsensuous emotionsand sentiments.

Angels are so near youand care so feelingly foryou that they figuratively“weep because of yourwillful intolerance andstubbornness.” p.419 §1

Page 54: Angels in our Midst

54

Do Angels Weep?Seraphim do not shed physical tears; they do not have physical bodies.

But they do have spiritual emo-tions, and they do experience feelings and sentiments of a spiritual naturewhich are in certain ways comparable to human emotions.

p.1246 §1

Page 55: Angels in our Midst

55

Angels & EmotionsThey share most of your emotions and experience some additional ones.

The only emotion actuating you which is somewhat difficult for them to comprehend isthe legacy of animal fear that bulks so large in the mental life of the average inhabitant of Urantia.

p.1243 §2

Page 56: Angels in our Midst

56

Incomprehensible FearThe angels really find it hard to understand why you will so persistently allow your higher intellectual powers, even your religious faith, to be so domi-nated by fear, so thoroughly demoralized by the thoughtless panic of dread and anxiety.

as man does.

“ The angels are immortal,

… unless, perchance, they become involved in sin asdid some of them with the deceptions of Lucifer.”

p.1841 §2

Page 59: Angels in our Midst

59

They are not Perfect Beings“ The angels are the

spirit servants in heaven, and they are neither all-wise nor all-powerful.

But all of the loyal angels are truly pure and holy.”

Page 60: Angels in our Midst

60

Try to Know & Love themAngels are fully cognizant of your moral struggles and spiritual difficulties.

They love human beings, and only good can result from your efforts to understand and love them.

p.419 §1

Page 61: Angels in our Midst

61

Do they Sleep?The ministering spirits enjoy seasons of rest and change;

They possess very social natures and have an associative capacity far transcending that of human beings.

p.285 §2

Page 62: Angels in our Midst

62

Do they Sleep? For purposes of rest and recharging with the lifeenergy of the universe circuits, the guardian is periodically relieved by her complement, and during her absence the associated cherubim functions as the recorder, as is also the case when the complementalseraphim is similarly absent.

p.1244 §1

Page 63: Angels in our Midst

63

Do they Eat?These brilliant creatures of light are sustained directly by the intake of the spiritual energy of the primary circuits of the universe.

Urantia mortals must obtain light-energy through the vegetative incarnation, but the angelic hosts are encircuited; they “have food that you know not.”

p.286 §5

Page 64: Angels in our Midst

64

Extended VisionThe angels of time and space are endowed with the ability to discern both spirit and material beings…

…as also are the ascending mortals subsequent to deliverance from the life in the flesh.

p.498 §8

Page 65: Angels in our Midst

65

Walk Through Walls? The spirit world is more real to them than the material.

The higher forms ofspirits freely pass through ordinary matter.

High spirits are reactiveto nothing material excepting certain of the basic energies.

67

Do Angels have Wings ?The erroneous idea that angels possess wings is not

wholly due to olden notionsthat they must have wings tofly through the air.Human beings have sometimes been permitted to observe sera-phim that were being prepared for transport service, and the traditions of these experiences have largely determined the concept of angels.p.438 §5

Page 68: Angels in our Midst

68

Energy ShieldsIn observing a transport seraphim being made ready to receive a passenger for inter-planetary transit, there maybe seen what are apparentlydouble sets of wings exten-ding from the head to thefoot of the angel. In realitythese wings are energyinsulators – friction shields.

p.438 §5

Page 69: Angels in our Midst

69

How Fast are they ?The worlds teem with angels and menand other highly personal beings, butthey are handicapped by time and space:

The limit of velocity for most non-enseraphimed beings is 186,280 miles/s;

The midway creatures and certain othercan, often do, attain double velocity

While the seraphim and others can traverse space at triple velocity, about 558,840 miles/s.

p.260 §7

Page 70: Angels in our Midst

70

Solitary MessengersHowever, apart from Solitary Messengers, there areno messenger personalities capable of carrying out transits at intermediate speeds between theinstantaneous displacements of gravity traversersand the relatively slow speed of the Seraphim.

This is why they are generally used for dispatch and service in those situations where personality is essentialto the achievement of the assignment.

Their speed exceeds 800 G miles/s (1.5 M faster)p.261 §1

Page 71: Angels in our Midst

71

The Universe is ImmenseOne-way trip from our planet towards Uversa:

30 000 light-years in direction to the centre ofthe Milky Way (~Orvonton)

The journey thus lasts10000 years for a Seraphim

It takes Solitary Messenger only 2.5 days !

Page 72: Angels in our Midst

72

Origin of Halo RingsAdam et Eve are beings of the order of Material Sons & Daughters that came on Earth 32 000 years ago to biologically enhance the human race.

Their bodies gave forth ashimmer of light that gave birth to the traditional halo encircling the heads of supposed pious and holymen.

p.834 §7

Page 73: Angels in our Midst

73

Splitting HairsAngels possess many powers far beyond human comprehension.

For example: You have been told that the “very hairs of your head are numbered," and it is true they are, but a seraphim does not spend her time counting them and keeping the number corrected up to date.

p.419 §3

Page 74: Angels in our Midst

74

Mathematical ProdigiesAngels possess inherent and automatic (as far as you could perceive) powers of knowing such things; you would truly regard a seraphim as a mathematical prodigy.

Therefore, numerousduties which would be tremendous tasks for mortals are performed with exceeding easeby seraphim.

p.419 §3

Page 75: Angels in our Midst

75

They are not your JudgesAngels are superior to you in spiritual status, but they are not your judges or accusers.

p.419 §4

No matter what your faults, “the angels, although greaterin power and might, bring no accusation against you." Angels do not sit in judgment on mankind;neither should individual mortals prejudge their fellow creatures.

Page 76: Angels in our Midst

76

You Should not Adore themYou do well to love them, but you should not adore them; angels are not objects of worship.

The great seraphim, Loyalatia, when your seer “fell down to worship before the feet of the angel," said: “See that you do it not; I am a fellow servant withyou and with your races, who are all enjoined to worship God."

p.419 §5

Page 77: Angels in our Midst

77

In nature and personality endowment the seraphim are just a trifle ahead of mortal races in the scaleof creature existence.

Indeed, when you are delivered from the flesh, you become very muchlike them.

They are Quite Close to Us

Though not male and female as arethe Material Sons and the mortal races, seraphim are negative and positive.

In the majority of assignments it requi-res two angels to accomplish the task.

When they are not encircuited, they can work alone; but ordinarily, they retain their original complements of being.

They Work in Pairs

p.420 §4

Page 85: Angels in our Midst

Their TrainersThe first created group of Nebadon seraphim were trained by a corps of one thousand seraphim from Avalon; subsequently our angels have been taught by their own seniors.

The Melchizedeks also have a large part in the education and training of all local universe angels –Seraphim, Cherubim, and Sanobim

p.420 §6

Page 88: Angels in our Midst

88

Seraphic TrainingSeraphim are initiated as ministering spirits by servingas observers on the lowest of the evolutionary worlds.

After this experience they return to the associate worlds of the headquarters of the assigned constellation to begin their advanced studies and more definitely to prepare forservice in someparticular localsystem.

Seraphic TrainingFollowing this general education they are advanced to the service of some one of the local systems.

On the architectural worlds associated with the capital of some system our seraphim complete their trainingand are commissioned as ministering spirits of time.

When once seraphim are commissioned, they may range all Nebadon, even Orvonton, on assignment.

p.421 §2

Page 90: Angels in our Midst

90

Seraphic TrainingTheir work in the universe is without bounds and limitations;

They are closely associated with the material creatures of the worlds and are ever in the service of the lower orders of spiritual personalities, making contact between these beings of the spirit world and the mortals of the material realms.

Seraphic OrganizationAfter the second millennium of sojourn at seraphic headquarters the seraphim are organized under chiefs into groups of twelve (12 pairs, 24 seraphim),

and twelve such groups constitute a company(144 pairs, 288 seraphim).

Twelve companies under a commander constitute a battalion (3,456 seraphim),

and twelve battalions under a director equal aseraphic unit (41,472 individuals);

and twelve such hosts (71 million of angels) make up the largest operating organization of seraphim, an angelic army.

Twelve LegionsJesus alluded to such a group of angels that night in the garden of Gethsemane when he said: “I can even now ask my Father, and he will presently give me more than twelve legionsof angels."

Chief in CommandA seraphic host is commanded by an Archangel or by some other personality of co-ordinate status, while the angelic armies are directed by the Brilliant Evening Stars or by other immediate lieutenants of Gabriel.

And Gabriel is the “supreme commander of the armies of heaven," the chief executive of the Sovereign of Nebadon [Christ Michael], “the Lord God of hosts."

p.421 §6

Supreme CommandSince the bestowal of Michael on Urantia, seraphim and all other local universe orders have become subject to the sovereignty of the Master Son.

All ranks of angels are subject to his sovereignty; they are a part of that group which has been denominated “his mighty angels."

p.422 §1

Page 98: Angels in our Midst

98

Cherubim & SanobimThey are wonderfully intelligent, marvelously efficient, touchingly affectionate, and almost human.

They are the lowest order of angels, hence all the nearer of kin to themore progressivetypes of humanbeings on the evolutionary worlds.

p.422 §1

Page 99: Angels in our Midst

99

Functional CouplesCherubim and Sanobim are inherently associated, functionally united.

One is an energy positive perso-nality; the other, energy negative.

The right-hand deflector, or positively charged angel, is the Cherubim – the senior or controlling personality.

The left-hand deflector, or negatively charged angel, is the Sanobim – the complement of being.

p.422 §2

Page 100: Angels in our Midst

Faithful and Efficient Aids When serving independently of their seraphic directors, they are more than ever dependent on mutual contact and always function together.

Cherubim and sanobim are the faithful and efficient aidsof the seraphic ministers, and all seven orders of seraphim are provided with these subordinate assistants.

Cherubim and Sanobim serve for ages in these capacities, but they do not accompany seraphim on assignments beyond the confines of the local universe.

p.422 §3

Page 101: Angels in our Midst

101

Routine Spirit Workers The cherubim and Sanobimare the routine spirit workerson the individual worlds of the systems.

On a nonpersonal assignmentand in an emergency, they may serve in the place of a seraphic pair, but they never function, even temporarily, as attending angels to human beings; that is an exclusive seraphic privilege.

p.422 §4

Page 102: Angels in our Midst

They Must all be BilingualWhen assigned to a planet, cherubim enter the local courses of training, including a study of planetary usages and languages.

The ministering spirits of time are all bilingual, speaking the language of the local universe of their origin and that of their native superuniverse.

The Secrets of SeraphingtonThe secrets of Seraphington involve the mystery of seraphic transport.

Various orders of seraphim and allied spirit beings are able to envelop within their spirit forms all orders of nonmaterial personalities and to carry them away on lengthy interplanetary journeys.

The transport seraphim comprehend this mystery, but they do not communicate it to the rest of us, or perhaps they cannot.

Guardian AngelsThe teaching about guardian angels is not a myth; certain groups of human beings do actually have personal angels.

Guardian angels are Seraphim devoted to the ministry to individual mortals, for whoseelevation and perfection, all of the vast survival scheme of spiritual progression has been provided.

p.1241 §3

Page 114: Angels in our Midst

Guardian AngelsIt was in recognition of guardian angels that Jesus, in speaking of the children of the heavenly kingdom, said:

p.1241 §3

“Take heed that you despise not one of these little ones, for I say to you, their angels do always behold the presence of the spiritof my Father.”

CoordinationOne of the most important things a destiny guardiandoes for her mortal subjectis to effect a personal co-ordination of the numerous impersonal spirit influenceswhich indwell, surround, and impinge upon the mind and soul of the evolving material creature.

p.1244 §2

Page 116: Angels in our Midst

116

They Never Influence youThe seraphim guard you; They do not seek directly to influence you;You must chart your own course, but these angels then act to make the best possible use of the course you have chosen.

“Angels are the sure and heavenly guides of the soul of man during that uncharted and indefinite period of time which intervenes bet-ween the death of the flesh and the new life in the spirit abodes."

Guardian Angels after DeathUpon your death, your records, identity specifications, and the morontia entity of the human soul – conjointly evolved by the ministry of mortal mind and the divine Adjuster – are faithfully conserved by the destiny guar-dian together with all other values related to your future existence, everything that constitutes you, the real you, except the identity of continuing existence representedby the departing Adjuster and the actuality ofpersonality.

p.1246 §5

Page 119: Angels in our Midst

119

Guardian Angels after DeathThe instant the pilot light in the human mind disappears, the spirit luminosity which seraphim associate with the presence of the Adjuster, the attending angel reports in person to the commanding angels, successively, of the group, company, battalion, unit, legion, and host;

After being duly registered for the final adventure of time and space, such an angel receives certification by the planetary chief of seraphim for reporting to the Evening Star in command of the seraphic army of this candidate for universe ascension.

Page 120: Angels in our Midst

120

Guardian Angels after DeathAnd upon being granted permission from the commander of this highest organizational unit, such a guardian of destiny proceeds to the first mansion worldand there awaits the consciousizing of herformer ward in the flesh.

p.1246 §6

Page 121: Angels in our Midst

121

No Eternal HellThe Adjusters of nonsurviving personalities do not return, and when the rolls are called, the seraphim respond, but the Adjusters make no answer. This constitutes theformal recognition of thecessation of creatureexistence. The call of justice alwaysimmediately follows theroll call of mercy.

p.1247 §6

Page 122: Angels in our Midst

122

In case of Failure of SurvivalIn case the human soul fails of survival after having received the assignment of a personal angel, the attending seraphim must proceed to the headquarters of the local universe, there to witness to the complete records of her complement as previously reported.

Next she goes before the tribunals of the Archangels, to be absolved from blame in the matter of the survival failure of her subject; and then she goes back to the worlds, again to be assigned to another mortal of ascending potentiality or to some other ministry.

p.1247 §1

Page 123: Angels in our Midst

123

Resurrection TeamThe guardian Seraphim is the custodial trustee of the survival values of mortal man's slumbering soul as the absent Adjuster is the identity of such an immortal universe being.

When these two collaborate in the resurrection halls of Mansonia in conjunction with the newly fabricated morontia form, there occurs the reassembly of theconstituent factors of the personality of the mortal ascender.

p.1247 §3

Page 124: Angels in our Midst

p.1247 §4

Page 125: Angels in our Midst

125

Other Interim DutiesBut angels minister to evolutionary creatures in many ways aside from the services of personal and group guardianship.

Personal guardians whose subjects do notgo immediately to the mansion worlds donot tarry there in idleness awaiting thedispensational roll calls of judgment; theyare reassigned to numerous ministeringmissions throughout the universe.

Ability to comprehend is the mortal passport to Paradise. Willingness to believe is the key to Havona.

The acceptance of sonship, co-operation with the indwelling Adjuster, is the price of evolutionary survival.

3rd Cosmic CircleWhen a mortal mind breaks through the inertia of animal legacy and attains the third circle of human intellectuality and acquired spirituality, a personal angel (in reality two)will henceforth be whollyand exclusively devoted tothis ascending mortal.

RantowocIn the evolution of races a guardian of destiny is assigned to the very first being who attains the requisite circle of conquest.

On Urantia the first mortal to secure a personal guardian was Rantowoc, a wise man of the red race of long ago.

p.1242 §5

Page 135: Angels in our Midst

135

3rd Cosmic CircleThe Adjuster's work is much more effective after the human ascender attains the 3rd circle and receives a personal seraphic guardian of destiny.

While there is no apparent concert of effort between the Adjuster and the seraphic guardian, nonetheless there is to be observed an unmistakable improvement in all phases of cosmic achievement and spiritual development subsequent to the assignment of the personal seraphic attendant

p.1210 §9

Page 136: Angels in our Midst

3rd Cosmic CircleWhen the third circle is attained, the Adjuster endeavors to morontiaize the mind of man during the remainder of the mortal life span, to make the remaining circles, and achievethe final stage of the divine-human association beforenatural death dissolves theunique partnership.

3rd Cosmic CircleFrom the 7th to the 3rd circle there occurs increased and unified action of the seven adjutant mind-spirits in the task of weaning the mortal mind from its dependence on the realities of the material life mechanisms preparatory to increased introduction tomorontia levels of experience.

From the third circle onwardthe adjutant influenceprogressively diminishes.

How many Angels are here?

p.1250 §2

[50 years ago] the roll call of planetary angels on Urantia was 1,194,393,600 individual angels.

Nearly 1 million angels were absent from this world on trans-port, messenger, and death duty.

There are about the same number of cherubim as seraphim, and they are similarly organized.

Other Factsabout Angels

Page 140: Angels in our Midst

140

Mind StimulatorsThe guardian seraphim are not mind, though they do spring from the same source that also gives origin to mortal mind, the Creative Spirit.

Seraphim are mind stimulators;they continually seek to promotecircle-making decisions in humanmind.

p.1245 §1

Page 141: Angels in our Midst

141

Mind StimulatorsThey do this, not as does the Adjuster, operating from within and through the soul, but rather from the outside inward, working through the social, ethical, and moral environment of human beings.

Seraphim are not the divine Adjuster lure of the Universal Father, but they do function as the personal agency of the ministry of the Infinite Spirit.

p.1245 §1

Page 142: Angels in our Midst

142

Seraphic GuidanceMortal man, subject to Adjuster leading, is also amenable to seraphic guidance.

The Adjuster is the essence of man's eternal nature; the seraphim is the teacher of man's evolving nature –in this life the mortal mind, in the next the morontia soul.

On the mansion worlds you will be conscious and aware of seraphic instructors, but in the first lifemen are usually unaware of them.

p.1245 §2

Page 143: Angels in our Midst

143

Easy Life you Say?Seraphim function as teachers of men by guiding the footsteps of the human personality into paths of new and progressive experiences.

To accept the guidance of a Seraphim rarely means attaininga life of ease.

p.1245 §3

Page 144: Angels in our Midst

144

Easy Life you Say ?In following this leading you are sureto encounter, and if you have the courage,to traverse, the rugged hills of moral choosing and spiritual progress.

The ascendant children of time havelearned to feast upon uncertainty,to fatten upon disappointment,to enthuse over apparent defeat,to invigorate in the presence of difficulties, to exhibit indomitable courage in the face of immensity, and to exercise unconquerable faithwhen confronted with the challengeof the inexplicable.

p.291 §3

Long since, the battle cry of these pilgrims became:“In liaison with God, nothing – absolutely nothing –

is impossible."

Cosmic Insight The guarding seraphim is constantly manipulating the mortal environment for the purpose of augmenting the cosmic insight of the human ascen-der to the end that such a survivalcandidate may acquire enhancedrealization of the presence of theindwelling Adjuster and thus beenabled to yield increased co-operation with the spiritual mission of the divine presence.

p.1245 §4

Page 147: Angels in our Midst

147

Cosmic InsightWhile there is apparently no communication between the indwelling Adjusters and the encompassing Seraphim, they always seem to work in perfectharmony and exquisite accord.

The guardians are most active at those times when the Adjusters are least active, but their ministry is in some manner strangely correlated.

Such superb co-operation could hardly be either accidental or incidental.

p.1245 §5

Page 148: Angels in our Midst

148

Endowments of Man The ministering personality of the guardian Seraphim, the God presence of the indwelling Adjuster, the encircuited action of the Holy Spirit, and the Son-consciousness of the Spirit of Truth are all divinely correlated into a meaningful unity of spiritual ministry in and to a mortal personality.

Though hailing from different sources and different levels, these celestial influences are all integrated in the enveloping and evolving presence of the Supreme Being.

p.1245 §6

Page 149: Angels in our Midst

149

Free WillAngels do not invade the sanctity of the human mind;they do not manipulate the will of mortals; neither do they directly contact with the indwelling Adjusters.

p.1245 §7

Page 150: Angels in our Midst

150

Free Will of ManThe guardian of destiny influences you in every possible manner consistent with the dignity of your personality; under no circumstances do these angels interfere with the free action of the human will.Neither angels nor any other order of universe personality have power or authority to curtail or abridge the prerogatives of human choosing.

p.1245 §7

Page 151: Angels in our Midst

151

Mind FocalizersMaster seraphim functionas ideational clearinghouses, mind focalizers, and project promoters.

While unable to inject new and higher conceptions into human minds, they often act to intensify some higher idealwhich has already appeared within a human intellect.

p.1256 §9

Page 152: Angels in our Midst

152

Impulse to WorshipThe impulse of worship largely originates in the spirit promptings of the higher mind adjutants, reinforced by the leadings of the Adjuster.

p.1245 §4

But the urge to pray so often experienced by God-conscious mortals very often arises as the resultof seraphic influence.

Page 153: Angels in our Midst

153

Angels & PrayerThe seraphim act in your behalf quite independent of your direct appeals; they are executing the mandates of their superiors, and thus they function regardless of your passing whims or changing moods.

p.1246 §2

Page 154: Angels in our Midst

154

This does not imply that you may not make their tasks either easier or more difficult, but rather that angels are not directly concerned with your appeals or with your prayers.

Direct Ministry ?Seraphim are able to function as material ministers to human beings under certain circumstances, but their action in this capacity is very rare.

They are able, with the assistanceof the Midway Creatures and thePhysical Controllers, to function in a wide range of activities in behalfof human beings, even to makeactual contact with mankind, butsuch occurrences are very unusual.

p.1246 §4

Page 156: Angels in our Midst

156

Emergency SituationsIn most instances the circumstances of the material realm proceed unaltered by seraphic action, although occasions have arisen, involving jeopardy to vital links in the chain of human evolution, in which seraphic guardians have acted, and properly, on theirown initiative.

p.1246 §4

Page 157: Angels in our Midst

157

Help by MidwayersMany of the more literal phenomena ascribed to angels have been performed by the secondary Midway Creatures.

p.865 §5

When the early teachers of the gospel of Jesus were thrown into prison, an actual “angel of the Lord"

“by night opened the prison doorsand brought them forth."

But in the case of Peter's deliverance, it was a Secondary Midwayer who performed the work ascribed to an angel.

Page 158: Angels in our Midst

158

Favorable InfluenceNone of these angelic groups exercise direct or arbitrary control over the domains of their assignment.

They cannot fully control the affairsof their respective realms of action, but they can and do so manipulateplanetary conditions and so associatecircumstances as favorably to influ-ence the spheres of human activity to which they are attached.

Social ArchitectsFrom the individual planets up through the morontia training worlds, these seraphim labor to enhance all sincere social contacts and to further the social evolutionof universe creatures.

These are the angels who seek to divest the associations of intelligent beings of all artificiality while endeavoring to facilitate the interassociation of will creatures on a basis of real self-understanding and genuine mutual appreciation.

Gabriel of SalvingtonGabriel is not part of the angelic group, being instead the Brilliant and Morning Star, the first-born of the Creator Son and the Mother Spirit of the universe of Nebadon.

Gabriel of SalvingtonGabriel is capable of a broad understanding of, and sympathetic contact with, both the spiritual seraphic hosts and the material evolutionary will creatures. The Bright and Morning Star is not a creator, buthe is a marvelous administrator, being the personal administrative representative of the Creator Son. Gabriel is also the commander in chief of “the armiesof heaven" – the celestial hosts. He was head of the army of God during the Lucifer rebellion.

Immanuel of SalvingtonEvery local universe is blessed with the presence of an ambassador of the Paradise Trinity, the Union of Days Immanuel of Salvington. This high Trinity Son is also the personal representative of the Universal Father to the court of the Creator Son; hence his name, Immanuel “God with us”. Immanuel is a being of sublime dignity and of such superb condescension that he refuses the worship and adoration of all living creatures. He functions as adviser to the Sovereign Son but gives counsel only on request.

197

Lucifer RebellionLucifer was a brilliant primary Lanonandek Son of Nebadon. He had experienced service in many systems, had been a high counselor of his group, and was distinguished for wisdom, sagacity, and efficiency.

Through evil and error, he embraced sin and succumbed to the urge of self and surrendered to the sophistry of spurious personal liberty – rejection of universe allegiance and disregard of fraternal obligations, blindness to cosmic relationships
