“Terry Benton and “traditionalists” argue today that all of Jesus teaching in MMLJ/BC is New Testament doctrine. Is this true?

They argue: “Do the words of Jesus have application today, or were his words nailed to the cross? Incredibly, some say Jesus came teaching the LOM (Law 0f Moses)”.Why this doctrine?” To accept all second marriages regardless of the cause of putting away. (Matt. 5:32; 19:6-9; No hell fire…).

“Traditionalists” then argue: Jesus came to fulfill the Law and the prophets (Matt. 5:17-20).

Jesus came not to destroy or invalidate the law (Lk.24:44).

Jesus kept the law (Jno. 7:18).

Jesus and all Jews lived under the law and He commanded all Jews to keep the law while they lived under it (Matt. 8:4).

Jesus was much more than a Jewish rabbi.

What About the “virgin”birth of Christ”? “1The book of the generation of Jesus Christ,

the son of David, the son of Abraham.2Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren…18Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 1:1; 18). Are we still looking for his “virgin” birth?

“33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33).

“42And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship-And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved” (Acts 2:42, 47).

Today, if all NT Christians are already IN the NT “church of Christ” – the NT “kingdom of

God” – how can we seek the kingdom?

No one can be justified today by keeping the law of Moses in MMLJ/BC!

“16Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified” (Galatians 2:16).

Any attempt by a NT Christian to keep the law of Moses in MMLJ/BC will cause that one to fall from grace!

“1Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.2Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.3For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.4Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace” (Galatians 5:1-4).

NT age had not started -NT church “at hand” (Mark 15:43) – not built until Acts 2!

“5These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:6But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.7And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 10:5-6).

After the cross…NT “commission”- Go into all the world!

“18And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Matthew 28:18-20).

John and Jesus were the last two Old Testament prophets sent to OT Israel.

“57And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. 58And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief” (Matthew 13:57-58). Jesus did not become NT Savior of the world until after his DBR!

Jesus and Jewish OT “traditions”…

“8This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.9But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men” (Matthew 15:8-9).

Christ promises to build the NT church! “18And I say also unto thee, That thou art

Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.19And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:18-19).

OT law on marriage, divorce, marriage… “1And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished

these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;2And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. 3The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?4And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,5And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?” (Matthew 19:1-5).

NT doctrine on MDM.

“26I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.27Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.28But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned…” (1 Corinthians 7:26-28).

The NT church – the bride of Christ… “22Wives, submit yourselves unto your own

husbands, as unto the Lord.23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.24Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it” (Ephesians5:22-25).

More OT law on marriage, divorce and marriage…

6Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.7They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?8He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.9And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marriethher which is put away doth commit adultery” (Matthew 19:6-9).

OT law of Moses…

“1When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.2And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man’s wife” (Deuteronomy 24:1-2).

NT doctrine: marriage, divorce and marriage.

“27Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.28But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you” (1 Corinthians 7:27-28).

Prophecy concerning death of Christ… “17And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the

twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them,18Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,19And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again” (Matthew 20:18-19).

Christ has “abolished” the OT law of Moses.

“13And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:14But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away in Christ” (2 Corinthians 3:13-14).

Today, the Old Testament law of Moses “kills” those who attempt to keep the OT law in MMLJ/BC.

“6Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.7But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away” (2 Cor. 3:6-7).

The greatest commandment in the OT law… “34But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the

Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.35Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,36Master, which is the great commandment in the law?37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.38This is the first and great commandment.39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Matthew 22:37-40).

Christ commands the Jews to keep the law!

“1Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,2Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat:3All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not” (Matthew 23:1-3).

Jesus kept many OT Jewish “passovers”… “And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished

all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,2Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.3Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,4And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him” (Matthew 26:1-4).

Judas betrayed Christ… “1When the morning was come, all the chief

priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:2And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.3Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,4Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood”(Matthew 27:1-4).
