Hebrews 10:22-25

22let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of , having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold unswervingly to the we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward and good deeds. 25Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Faith Hope

After defining the basis for the appeal in vv 19–21, the Application Section is organized into a

relational triad

1. faith (10:22) is celebrated in 11:1–402. hope (10:23) is expressed through

perseverance in 12:1–13, and3. love (10:24–25) furnishes the key to the

conclusion of the sermon in 12:14–13:21.

RELATIONAL TRIAD = Path to LIFE through Christ

23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess (NIV)23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope (NKJV)

What do we profess/confess to others?GOD’S SALVATION FROM DEATH– the coming Glorification at the

DAY OF THE LORD (for study guide #3, b)Hebrews 9:28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away

the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

“HOPE” = Eternal Life (Glorification)

1 Corinthians 15:51-58:• 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we

will all be changed (glorification) — 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54

then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”56 …. Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

“Day” = Second Coming

Let us (continue in) – Works/Deeds:

1. Faith (up): Communion & Baptism2. Hope (in): Profession & Perseverance3. Love (out): Good Deeds, Meeting

Together &ENCOURAGING ONE ANOTHER! (THE

CHURCH)Faith without works is dead!

The Path to LIFE (through Christ)WITHIN THE CHURCH

25 Let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

“to call to one’s side, to comfort, to console, to strengthen.” Basically, to “put courage in”

John 14:16: • 15 “If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Comforter to be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. ”

“ENCOURAGE” = Put courage inSame work as Holy Spirit

“24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another”

Hebrews 3:12-13:• “See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful,

unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”

“ONE ANOTHER” = FOCUS on THE CHURCH

“24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us (continue daily) not give up meeting together, (Study Guide #3, a)

• Acts 1:14: These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

• Acts 2:1: When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place

• Acts 2:46: So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”

“Meeting Together” = ONE ACCORD

1 Thess. 1:3: 3 We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance (or perseverance) inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.James 2:14-26:• 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by

action, is dead.• 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working

together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. • 24 You see that a person is justified by what he does and not

by faith alone.• 26 so faith without deeds is dead.”
