Not Given to Wine (Not a drunkard ESV, No Brawler ASV)

The Greek word literally means “beside wine.” Basically we are talking about someone who is too long at wine or intoxicating drinks.

ASV translates no brawler, but no accurate to take away drunk connotation. Word does have associated bad behavior resulting from drink.

Some do act loud and boisterous like a drunk , that’s not man-like.

Not Violent But Gentle (No Striker but patient KJV)

Literally we mean a bruiser or someone that is always ready for a fight. He has a perpetual chip on his shoulder.

If we teach our boys to take nothing from no one, we are really teaching them the weak way not the way to act like a man.

Men we need to be known for our gentleness.

Isa 53:7 NKJV He was oppressed and

He was afflicted, Yet He opened not

His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the

slaughter, And as a sheep before its

shearers is silent, So He opened not

His mouth.

I remember Daddy´s hands, folded silently in prayer.

And reaching out to hold me, when I had a nightmare.

You could read quite a story, in the calluses and lines.

Years of work and worry had left their mark behind.

I remember Daddy´s hands, how they held my Mama tight,

And patted my back, for something done right.

There are things that I´ve forgotten, that I loved about the man,

But I´ll always remember the love in Daddy´s hands.

Not Greedy for Money (a Lover of Money, ESV)

1Ti 6:9-11 NKJV But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. (10) For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (11) But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.

Not Quarrelsome or Contentious

Greek word amachos – not a fighter

A real man is not a “macho man”.

Some people anxiously await something to argue, something to quarrel over.

Real man love peace.

Oh, NO!!!

Mat 5:9 NKJV Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.

Rom 14:19 NKJV Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.

Heb 12:14-16 NKJV Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: (15) looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled; (16) lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright.

Rom 12:17-21 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. (18) If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. (19) Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord." (20) To the contrary, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head." (21) Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
