  • 1.Matthew 1So, where are we in ourBible in Five?

2. We Will Leap Ahead To The ChristmasStory In Matthew 1 3. However, The Christmas Story startsearlier than you might have guessed 4. The Christmas Story Starts Before TheFoundation Of The World creationmoments.Com Ephesians 1:3-4 "Blessed [be] the God and Father of our LordJesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings inheavenly [places] in Christ: according as he hath chosen us inhim before the foundation of the world, that we should beholy and without blame before him in love." The story of Christmas begins with the beginning of the workof the Son of God. And His first work is recorded in Genesischapter 1. The story of His love for us that led Him to give upthe glory, beauty and perfection of heaven to come to ourdirty, dusty, pain-filled world begins not in Bethlehem, or inthe Old Testament prophets. We must go to the beginning ofHis story lest His birth become simply the beginning ofanother story of a tragic and misunderstood life 5. The Christmas Story Starts Before TheFoundation Of The World creationmoments.Com The cross of Golgotha stands firmly planted in Genesis chapter 1.Even before the creation, Christs pain and suffering on thatcoarse structure was anticipated. Ephesians 1:4 reveals that evenbefore the foundation of the world Gods plan of salvation wasalready in place. Even the coarse Roman soldiers knew that His robe could not becut into pieces without destroying it. Likewise, the Bible is onecomplete piece woven of one thread. Cutting out anythingleaves the whole thing to unravel. To remove the beginning ofthe story of the Word and His work in Genesis is to remove thefoundation on which His work of salvation stands. Yes, the Christmas story is far more than the story of the birth ofan important baby. It is the center of the story of creation itself! 6. Since We Just Studied Gen 1, We WillLeap Ahead To The Christmas Story The Book of Matthew is very, very Jewish; Matthew 1:1 The record of the genealogy ofJesus the Messiah, the son of David, the sonof Abraham: Matthew 22:42 "What do you think about theChrist, whose son is He?" They said to Him,"The son of David." 7. The Book of Matthew is Jewish The Book of Matthew is very, very Jewish All 4 Gospels quote the OT extensively toshow the prophecies of Jesus and Hisfulfillment of them. However, Matthew quotesthe OT more than any of the others, and addsan additional 9 proof texts, not quoted by theothers. Matthews genealogy stops at Abraham, themost important patriarch to the Jews 8. 4 Gospels AllAbout Christ 9. 4 Gospels= 4 Emphases Of Christ Matthew is Jewish, Jesus the Messiah, the son ofDavid, the son of Abraham Mark presents a servant, no genealogy Luke presents His humanity, genealogy goes to Luke 3:38the son of Adam, the son of God. John presents His deity, genealogy goes to John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and theWord was with God, and the Word was God. 10. Gospels = 4 Views Human, Luke Deity in JohnLion of Judah,Matthew Servant in Mark 11. Where Are We? We have leapt from 1900 BC to 4-7 BC Across the Old Testament , and the 450 SilentYears to the New Testament, to a city inGalilee called Nazareth (Luke 1:26), andweve landed in the Matthew, one of the.. "Synoptic Gospels" 12. Dr. Thomas L. Constable says, The synoptic problem is intrinsic to all study of theGospels, especially the first three. ("Gospel" capitalized inthese notes refers to a book of the Bible whereas "gospel"not capitalized refers to the good news, the gospelmessage.) The word "synoptic" comes from two Greekwords, syn and opsesthai, meaning, "to see together."Essentially the synoptic problem involves all the difficultiesthat arise because of the similarities and differencesbetween the Gospel accounts. Matthew, Mark, and Lukehave received the title "Synoptic Gospels" because theypresent the life and ministry of Jesus Christ similarly. Thecontent and purpose of Johns Gospel are sufficientlydistinct to put it in a class by itself. It is not one of the so-called Synoptic Gospels. 13. Matthew 1:1-2:5 14. Matthew And Luke Tell Us TheStory Of The Very First 15. Matthew 1:1-17 Matthew 1:1-17 is an Old Testament Bible Survey. We left off at Gen 38 and pick it up here at verse;Matthew 1:1-3 Matthew 1:1 The record of the genealogy ofJesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son ofAbraham: 2 Abraham was the father of Isaac,Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father ofJudah and his brothers. These 5 we have just studied, the rest, not yet. 16. Matthew 1:1 The Record Of TheGenealogy Of Jesus Matthew 1:1 The record of [ , I bet inHeb. It would be toledot] the genealogy of Jesus theMessiah, the son of Davidand Jacob thefather of Judah and his brothers. Judah? What about Reuben, Jacobsfirstborn, then Simeon and Levi Genesis35:23 Reuben, Simeon and Levi were all disqualifiedfrom the rights of the firstborn 17. Judah?, Why This Sordid Story? Genesis 38:24Judah was informed, "Your daughter-in-lawTamar has played the harlot 28 Moreover, it took place while she was giving birth, oneput out a hand, and the midwife took and tied a scarletthread on his hand, saying, "This one came out first." 29 Butit came about as he drew back his hand, that behold, hisbrother came out. Then she said, "What a breach you havemade for yourself!" So he was named Perez Matthew 1:3 Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah byTamar, Perez was the father of Hezron... Yes, Tamar was the daughter in law of Judahs firstborn sonEr. Judah begat Er by a Canaanite woman (gentile) namedShua. Tamar is named in the genealogy of Jesus! 18. Women In The Bloodline Of TheMessiah 5 women (3 or 4 gentiles) named Matthew 1:3 Judahfather of Perez and Zerah by Tamar[EdHindson lists her as a gentile, pg. 12]. Matthew 1:5 Salmon was the father of Boaz by Rahab [Jericho],Boaz was the father of Obed by Ruth [Moabitess], , and Obed thefather of Jesse. 6 Jesse was the father of David the king. Davidwas the father of Solomon by Bathsheba who had been thewife of Uriah [the Hittite, Genesis 15:20]. [the father of 39Xs, not for Joseph?] Matthew 1:16 Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband ofMary, by whom Jesus was born, who is called the Messiah. Lying, deceit, incest, indecent exposure, adultery, murder inthe bloodline of Christ, the Bible doesnt hide anything, andthis is strong evidence of its non-human authorship. 19. This Bloodline Ends At The CrossExcept For Us 20. Mat 1:16, Joseph Husband Of Mary Matthew 1:16Joseph the husband of Mary, by whomJesus was born Jesus was Josephs legal son, but not His natural, physical son. We would say, step son, or adopted son. Thus, even though Jeconiah (Matthew 1:11) was inJosephs lineage, Jesus still qualified to be King, because Jeconiah isnt in Marys lineage. Jeremiah 22:30 "Thus says the LORD, Write this mandown childless, A man who will not prosper in his days; For no man of his descendants will prosper Sitting onthe throne of David Or ruling again in Judah." 21.
