History Reveals...The day of atonement was kept in ancient israel as a time of fasting & prayer as well

The high priest would enter into the holiest of holies with the blood of animals to make recompense for the sins of israel

The Holiest of Holies was the inner part of the Tabernacle & later the Temple in Jerusalem where the Ark of the Covenant, which contained the 10 commandments, was placed

The high priest could only enter into the holy place once a year

No one else could enter in

The high priest represented Christ who is our High Priest ©2011 Household Of Israel Temple Of Jesus Christ. All Rights Reserved

History reveals...During the levitical priesthood, the blood of animals were used when making sacrifices & atonements

We can see in the scriptures that many sacrifices & atonements were made on Israel’s behalf yet they continued to sin

The sacrifice of animals pointed to the time of christ being crucified for us

Christ made one sacrifice for our sins forever when he died for us

It is Christ’s blood, not the blood of animals, that cleanses us from sin (See presentation “The Blood of Christ”)

Fasting on atonement God commands us to fast during the day of atonement, in which we refrain from consuming any food & drink from sundown to sundown

SPECIAL NOTE: A new day begins at sundown. Atonement will take place on Tuesday, October 25th, 2012. We will observe the Atonement beginning on the sundown of Monday, October 24th to the sundown of October 25th.

Fasting symbolizes our ability to sacrifice the lusts of the flesh & to live a life free from sin

Through fasting we become stronger & closer to god

When christ fasted 40 days & nights in the wilderness he taught us that man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of god

Forgiveness & repentance Remember that ‘atone’ means to reconcile, to make right and recompense

Atonement is a day in which we truly evaluate our lives to make certain we are living according to the laws of god

We pray to God the father & ask for his mercy & forgiveness for our sins

We also pray that the father give us the strength & holy spirit to repent & sin no more

The cost of sin The key phrase is to ‘repent & sin no more’

Sin is not a little thing

the cost of sin is very high

It can cost us our lives

Sin is the transgression of the 10 commandments

the bible, which defines the law, gives us instruction on how to keep it

Despite what some may say in the world, it is possible to live a life free from sin

Everyone is guilty of sin

We are all guilty of sin

Adam & eve sinned against god & caused a terrible curse to be placed upon humankind

What is this curse?....that all flesh would be susceptible to sin & death

No sin is hidden Everything we have done in our lives is recorded in a book

This book includes every righteous deed & every sin

We must resist temptation & obey because God sees, hears & knows all

Let us remember god’s judgment... “the soul that sinneth shall die”

Page 10: The Day of Atonement

Hope remains....In looking at that judgment one might think that there is no hope to be saved

Our hope is in christ who was sent on this earth by god the father to die for our sins

Through the shedding of christ’s blood....

We were granted forbearance & grace, which provides us the opportunity to turn from sin & walk in truth (See class on “Grace”)

The curse of Adam’s sin was taken away, meaning those who obey God would NOT die an ETERNAL DEATH & would rise up in the resurrection during the last days

Page 11: The Day of Atonement

During the last daysThe day of atonement has not been fulfilled

He will blot out the sins in our record books with his blood

Only then will the sins in our record books be permanently removed

For most of God’s people, the evil root or the knowledge of evil is removed at the common death; therefore, they will resurrect with immortal flesh having undefiled hearts & minds

For a few, those who will live to see him come, the evil root will be removed during the outpouring of the holy spirit at the time of harvest

Page 12: The Day of Atonement

Keep this in mind...On the day of atonement we must remember that Christ is in the most holy place in heaven & appearing before God the father on our behalf

He is our high priest & atonement

We must fast & pray, repenting for our sins just as our ancient fathers did

Because Atonement has yet to be fulfilled the door of mercy is still open

Let us call upon the Lord today while it is still today

How do we celebrate atonement?

The day of atonement is the most holy & solemn day of the year

We keep it just like a Sabbath, refraining from any common or recreational activities

We decorate our church in red and white to remember christ’s blood & purity

Our solemn ceremony includes songs of praise, prayer, hand washing & communion, testimonies & foot washing
