Gilgal, Bethel, Jericho and Jordan.

Elisha had four tests:

Page 5: The double anointing

2 Kings 2When the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. 2 Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; the Lord has sent me to Bethel.”

But Elisha said, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.

3 The company of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and asked, “Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?”

“Yes, I know,” Elisha replied, “so be quiet.”

4 Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here, Elisha; the Lord has sent me to Jericho.”

And he replied, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Jericho.

5 The company of the prophets at Jericho went up to Elisha and asked him, “Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?”

“Yes, I know,” he replied, “so be quiet.”

6 Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here; the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.”

And he replied, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them walked on.

7 Fifty men from the company of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan. 8 Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground.

9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?”

“Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.

10 “You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not.”

11 As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. 12 Elisha saw this and cried out, “My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!” And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his garment and tore it in two.

13 Elisha then picked up Elijah’s cloak that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. 14 He took the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and struck the water with it. “Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.

Gilgal is phonetically similar to gallothi, meaning ‘I have removed’ in Hebrew.

You need to accept that your past is gone. Forgiven. Clean. The enemy has a plan to continue to "shame" God's children. This is an old trick of our enemy. Through the lie of rejection, he will speak lies of unworthiness, shame, and words that speak "you are less than." Though Elisha was determined that he was going to receive a double portion anointing, he was most likely still tested with rejection. When Elijah and he stopped at Gilgal, Elijah instructed Elisha to remain there, but Elisha insisted that he would not leave his destiny link. At first, it appears Elijah did not desire for Elisha to tag along with him. He actually told him to remain and not follow. However, Elisha's statement was "I will not leave thee" (2 Kings 2:2). This is a kingdom--covenant statement.

to your destiny and move forward!

“But its too tough to forgive, forget and move forward!”

Bethel means "The House of God."

1 Corinthians 3:16Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? (As a group).2 Samuel 7:13He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

At Bethel, Elisha was tested once again. Did he fully want the double portion? Did he give the Lord his entire heart and life? Was there any area of rejection that rose up when his mentor once more said, "Stay here...you can't come." Once again, Elisha responded with a covenant reply, "I will not leave you." We must press into staying with our assigned positions, assigned destiny links, and assigned callings.

“Yes, I know,” Elisha replied, “so be quiet.” (And he does it anyway).

“You are too busy to build the house of God”.

Jericho translates as "sent.“ A clear command, instruction, directive. Obedience is the key!

Jesus gave us a very clear instruction Matthew 28:19. Disciple, Baptise, Teach. To obey that instruction is like having the ark of the covenant in your house!2 Samuel 6:12“The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.”

“Yes, I know,” Elisha replied, “so be quiet.” (And he does it anyway).

“You are too busy to make disciples”.

Jordan means "descending" or "flowing down."The final and greatest of all tests is servant hood. ‘Modern’ man wants to be equal with everyone. They refuse to honor where it is due and guess what… nothing flows uphill! It flows down!Hebrews 13:17Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.1 Peter 5:5Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (Humble means teachable).

The ultimate result:Revelation 2:26-27The one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations and he will rule them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces, even as I myself have received authority from my Father.

Earthen pots broken into pieces need to be either repurposed as a mosaic or rebuilt. God will use you to rebuild things that are destroyed or repurpose them. Relationships, finances, business, communities, nations – If it is not working, God will give you the authority to turn it into double its original potential!

Acts 2:37-4137 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
