Gaels pick up 3-2 shootout win over Concordia in men's hockey Posted by: Rachel Hall (Sports Information Writer) 11/30/2012 10:15:00 PM BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. - Despite a wide edge in shots on goal, the Queen's Gaels men's hockey team needed a shootout to defeat the Concordia Stingers, 3-2, in OUA men's hockey action at the Kingston Memorial Centre, Friday night. The Gaels outshot the Stingers 52-26, The Gaels dominated the first period offensively, outshooting the Stingers, 18-5. They opened the scoring when Concordia's goalie, Loic Boivin (Sutton, Que.), took the puck behind the net and was trapped giving Brandon Perry (Timmins, Ont.) an easy opening for his second goal of the season at 16:28. In the second period, Concordia got on the board quickly with a goal at 1:19 by Etienne Archambault (St. Hyacinthe, Que.). The remainder of the period was action-packed, but scoreless. The Gaels outshot the Stingers 11-8. The Stingers opened the scoring in the third period at the 5:22 mark with a goal by Philip Richer (Lachute, Que.) putting Concordia up 2-1. The Gaels quickly responded with their own goal at the 7:36 mark by Jordan Mirwaldt (Winnipeg, Man.); Brock Ouellet (Lindsay, Ont.) and Kelly Jackson (Scarborough, Ont.) had assists. Both teams had numerous scoring chances in the remainder of the period, however regulation ended with the teams tied 2-2. Queen's outshot Concordia 7-2 in overtime, but both teams were unable to score forcing a shootout. Jesse Ferras (Ottawa, Ont.) and Patrick McEachen (Stouffville, Ont.) scored leading the Gaels to win the shootout 2-1 and the game 3-2. David Aime (Clandeboye, Man.) had 24 saves for the Gaels, while Boivin stopped 50 shots for the Stingers. Queen's is now 6-6-2 and Concordia moves to 4-10-2. The Gaels return to action Saturday, Dec. 1, as they host UQTR. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
