Design Overview

Design Overview

Raw Data Plots

- Altitude

- Coordinates (position plot)

- Temperature

Note: Test results. Not from actual launch

Processed / Analyzed Data Plots

Note: Test results. Not from actual launch

Outcome of flight operations / failure analysis

• Parachute

– Complicated to balance (calibrate)

– Requires to be tested at high altitudes

– Easy to get tangled

• No CanSat protrusions allowed

Outcome of flight operations / failure analysis

• Servos and DC Motor

– Extra power supplies required

– To noisy

• Interference between each other

• Big capacitors needed

Outcome of flight operations / failure analysis

• GPS

– Inaccurate

– Big and heavy antenna

– Transmits at 4800 bps

– Requires extra power supply

– Takes time to lock satellites

Outcome of flight operations / failure analysis

• Ultrasonic sensor

– Big

– Requires extra programming cycles

– Overflow

Outcome of flight operations / failure analysis

• Transceivers

– Operate at 9600 bps

• Camera

– Space and storage

Outcome of flight operations / failure analysis

• Processors

• PIC

• PICAXE

• BasicSTAMP (used)

– Lack of floating point

– Trigonometric Functions

Outcome of flight operations / failure analysis

• Soil Sample

– Outside protrusions did not let the initial idea accommodate

• Navigation

– The use of accelerometers could have helped to know and

correct positions.

– Instead of a propelled thrust, a compressed air or propulsion

system could work better since it may be east to locate.

Comparison of actual CANOPS to planned CANOPS

• Planned CANOPS

– Navigation

– Constant information sending

• Altitude, latitude, longitude, temperature

– Information processing and plotting in program with graph

Comparison of actual CANOPS to planned CANOPS

• Planned CANOPS

Comparison of actual CANOPS to planned CANOPS

• Planned CANOPS

Comparison of actual CANOPS to planned CANOPS

• Actual CANOPS

– Parachute got tangled

• Couldn’t navigate

• Couldn’t open

– Constant resetting caused transceivers to loss configuration

• Transmission failure
