LISP Host Mobility (ASM)
LISP Host Mobility Three Simple Steps for Host Mobility…
1. Detection of Mobility Eventa) For any host, without agents on the host or protocols
2. Registration with the Mapping System
3. Notifications to other xTRs / PITRsa) Update routing tables at old sites (map-notify)
b) Update LISP Map-Caches (Solicit Map Request)

1. ITRs, PITRs with cached mappings continue to send traffic to the old locators until updated
1
2. Old Building xTR sends Solicit Map Request (SMR) messages to any encapsulators sending traffic to “it” for a dynamic EID that is not discovered (data-triggered SMR)
2
map-request
3. SMR causes ITR to initiate a new map-request/map-reply process
map-request
4. Map-Reply updates map-cache with new location
5. Traffic now flows to the SAME HOST at its NEW location34

LISP Host Mobility Requirements for ASM
xTR should be first Layer-3 hop (IP Gateway)
Proxy-ARP should be enabled on xTR’s gateway interface
xTR’s gateway MAC address should be same on all roaming sites
All roaming sites xTRs should register with the same set of map-servers
Mobility hosts should not be “silent” after they move
Requires multicast on xTRs (only if site has multiple xTRs)
LISP Host Mobility Show/Debug
Show commands show lisp dynamic-eid summary show ip lisp database show ip route <dynamic-eid> show ip cef <dynamic-eid> show ip cef <dynamic-eid> internal
Debug commands debug lisp control-plane dynamic-eid debug lisp control-plane link-layer debug lisp forwarding data-signal-discover-dyn-eid
