MalwareA software that has been discreetly installed on your PC to perform a specific task, often intended to damage or disable the PC.

RansomwareA specific type of malicious software designed to encrypt information on a computer system or network, restricting access to data until a sum of money is paid for the decryption key.

Email Attachment HandlingWarning signs:

◦ Unsolicited

◦ Has attachment such as .zip or .html (instead of .docx, .doc, .pdf)

◦ No last name from sender

◦ Grammar / Punctuation / Spelling errors

PhishingAn email that has been spammed to many email addresses claiming to be from a reputable company, with the intention of stealing personal information, usernames, passwords, credit card information, or addresses.

Spear-Phishing

Antivirus / AntimalwareALWAYS use an antivirus/antimalware software, even if it’s just Windows Defender or Microsoft Security Essentials.

PatchingSoftware designed to protect computer systems and other devices from known threats or to fix bugs.

Passwords•Change your passwords often, every 90 days at least.

•Do not use the same password for each of your accounts.

•Use special characters & upper / lower case letters

All of the above will benefit against hackers!

Backup your DataHaving an up-to-date backup of all critical data for either personal or business can be the biggest time saver in case of data loss, damage, deletion, or encryption.
