Updating your perceptions

Materials recovery and recycling is high on the priority list of waste management strategies, certainly higher than incineration or land filling, which often meet public resistance.

The Keppel Seghers DANO Drum is ideally suited to precondition waste before final treatment.

It allows a maximum recovery of recyclable materials, an ideal pretreatment of the organic fraction prior to biological treatment and at the same time produces an excellent RDF type of fuel.

Updating your perceptions

Waste is a heterogeneous mixture of different solid products such as paper, plastics, cardboard, metals, food waste, etc. The composition varies widely according to many parameters:

• Origin (households, industry,…) • Region or country • Living standards and habits • Time of the year (winter, summer, rainy season) • Waste collection method (bags, open containers.)

Waste disposal becomes a top priority for many local governments.

Seghers Dano Drum

The core of a waste pre-treatment installation is the SEGHERS Dano Drum for waste conditioning.

The drum is a horizontally mounted, rotating

steel cylinder which automatically shreds, mixes, conditions and sorts the refuse into components for either recycling, composting, or incineration with energy recovery.

The Keppel Seghers DANO Drum Mark III has a length of about 79 ft and an internal diameter of 12.5 ft. An integrated screen is attached to the end of the drum.

The rotation of the drum imparts a tumbling action to its contents, which leads to a breakdown of the softer components by particle collision and attrition as they repeatedly contact the drum wall and harder elements in the mixture.

Protection and Reliability

A number of triangular shaped projections are fitted in the Keppel Seghers DANO Drum to help prevent the formation of bundles of textiles.

Protection and Reliability

In order to protect the drum from wear, Keppel Seghers DANO Drum uses a system which causes pulverized elements in the refuse to form a deep lining around the total internal periphery of the drum. This completely protects the cylinder shell and has proved to be extremely successful in ensuring, with minimum maintenance, a virtually everlasting life for the drum.

The flexible process implementation allows for a change in secondary resource markets and values.

It also copes with future policy changes due to public appreciation and the evolution of final treatment technologies.
