James Pace High School will respond to 21st century work-force demands by implementing  an educational program that shifts the

emphasis from teacher-centered to student-centered authentic connected activities, whereby our students will construct knowledge.

Engaged leaders will be empowered through the creation of successful learning communities.  Through extensive professional development, Pace faculty will be trained in the art of technology integration into the curriculum in order to transform learners into a creative, collaborative,

skilled, problem solving society.

Beliefs

• Belief 1• We believe each student is a valued individual learner with unique intellectual, physical, social, and emotional

needs.

 • Belief 2• We believe all stakeholders – students, parents, teachers, campus and district administration, staff, and

community- share in the responsibility for providing a supportive learning environment.

 • Belief 3• We believe clearly defined goals and high expectations for student achievement should guide the

development of research-based curriculum, design and implementation of instructional strategies, and learning activities.

 • Belief 4• We believe the commitment to continuous improvement is imperative in enabling students to become

competitive, self-directed, technologically literate, life-long learners and problem solvers, and leaders in a global society.

 • Belief 5• We believe our school provides a safe environment where students can develop character, integrity and

ethical behavior.

Staff Strengths:

• All Pace teachers are deemed “highly qualified” as mandated by state and federal laws. As indicated in the Needs Assessment and other Data Chart, more than half the teachers at Pace High School have over 11 years of experience. This veteran work force brings a wealth of expertise and skills to the Pace student.

Staff Weaknesses:

• With the large staff at Pace High School, space is a problem. Although new wings have been built and a new wing is currently under construction, portable classrooms are still necessary and teachers are still floating into other teacher’s classrooms. Additionally, capital outlay money is needed to provide teachers with document cameras and other items for computer assisted instruction.

Student Needs:

• ……All students must increase their class attendance on a daily basis in order for the attendance rate to increase.

• …A comprehensive needs assessment of our current technology was conducted in the spring of 2009. The needs assessment was conducted through department chair meetings with administration. Input from the meetings was gathered to determine the current technology needs of our campus. Based on the comprehensive needs assessment, the following items are needed to address the students’ needs. Computers labs need to be created for online testing and Odyssey Math and Science labs. These labs help students address their weaknesses in Math, Science, ELA and Social Studies….

PACE IT - Technology

• Path to Transformation – 1 Example– Twitter

• “Inside the classroom, Twitter can be used to review lessons and remind students what is going to be covered in class that day or the next.  Teachers say tweeting a few quick review questions and some good Web sites add depth to their lessons. In turn, students can tweet their own

questions and observations. “• "Twitter," Bergeron says, "is like the ticker at the bottom of

CNN -- only a ticker populated with information about those people or things you care about, want to learn from, or want to know about."
