Lighting
Lighting is the use of light to achieve a practical or aesthetic effect.
Lighting includes the use of both artificial light sources like light bulbs (lamps)as well as natural illumination by capturing daylight.

Special Windows construction & interior coloring
Placing the window close to a light colored wall.
Incline the sides of window openings so the inner opening is larger than the outer.
Using a large light colored window-sill to project light into the room.
Windows are the most common way to bring daylight into a building.

California Academy of Sciences / Renzo Piano (2008)
At least 90% of regularly occupied spaces have access to daylight and outside views, reducing energy use and heat gain from electric lighting.

Light tubes (aka Tubular daylighting devices)
“Tubular daylighting devices (TDDs) are optical systems that use engineered duct-like tubes to carry light from roof openings deeper into buildings. ”

Transparent concrete blocksMaterial is - i.light, it has dozens of tiny holes in it which lets light through without compromising the structural integrity.
The Italian pavilion in 2010 World Expo in Shanghai is the only building constructed with 'transparent' cement to date

Light bulbsElectric lighting burns up about 25% of the average home energy. One of the solutions to use energy-efficient bulbs, such as
• Light Emitting Diode (LED) -
• Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL)
Benefits of CFL
• Efficient - use 50 - 80% less energy than incandescent.CFLs use 1/3 of the electricity and last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs.
• Less Expensive - initially more expensive than incandescent bulbs, BUT save money in the long run.
• Reduces Air and Water Pollution - Replacing one incandescent bulb with a CFL will keep a half-ton of CO2 out of the atmosphere over the life of the bulb.
Benefits of LED
• Longer useful life – 10 times more than CFL• Durable – not damaged while bumping• Cool - not heat up• More efficient - LED light bulbs use only 2-17 watts of electricity
• Expensive, BUT it last longer !!!
