DESCRIPTION
This is a business idea that I am promoting at my work. I call it Sustainability Intelligence. Its a mix of business intelligence and sustainable development. I am looking at the market opportunities for creating software that executives can use to track/report/predict the social, environmental and economic performance of their organizations in a standardized way. SAS Institute (top business intelligence company in terms of vision and strategy) already has such a product. I want to create an open source version so that it can be adopted by smaller organizations who can't afford enterprise software.

Why is Sustainability Intelligence necessary?
As today’s managers use business intelligence to report and track economic indicators, managers of tomorrow will have 2 new dimensions of organizational indicators to deal with, due to:
– Broader definition of Corporate Responsibility
– More demanding shareholders
– Governmental regulations & political pressure
– Economic opportunity
– Increased Awareness and Education

How neglected was Sustainable Development yesterday?
“The fact of the matter is that today, stuff-selling mega-corporations have a huge influence on our daily lives. And because of the competitive nature of our global economy, these corporations are generally only concerned with one thing.. the bottom line. That is, maximizing profit, regardless of the social or environmental costs.”
