Where are Femtocells now?

All major operators are having some kind of Femtocells trialsFirst IMS based 3G Femtocell to be launced in Japan in Jan. 09‘Heavy Reading’ report suggests that full fledged commercial launches will happen end of 2010 or beginning 2011.Informa report (Aug. 08) suggests that there will be 40 million Femtocells by end of 2013

Where is LTE now?

T-Mobile, Nortel and LG demonstrated data transfer from a vehicle in Bonn, Germany using LTE – Sep 08.ABI Research predicts that there will be 32 million subscribers will be using LTE by 2013.NTT DoCoMo plans to roll out LTE commercially by end 2009.In Americas, operators who were supporting CDMA2000 are now supporting LTE as evolution path.

MoD data loss total could hit 1.7 million

14/10/08: A recent data breach at the Ministry of Defence(MoD) could prove to be much worse than originally feared. The portable hard drive reported missing by subcontractor EDS could contain data on as many as 1.7 million prospective recruits.The estimate is far higher than those originally given at a modest 100,000 records.

Why we need LTE Femtocells for this:These memory devices are nearly always used indoorsIt is necessary to have good Radio coverage to get high data rates LTE data rates of 300Mbps is not far off from USB 2.0 data rates of 480MbpsNot suitable for Macrocells for high amount of storage as the data transfer would generally exceed the quota.Data speeds of 300Mbps means no other user can generally use thecell hence Macrocells are again ruled out for this app.Large amount of data transfer would require free or capped charges which is possible only with Femtocells ‘Home Zone’ rates.

Our home is full of complicated systems that can go wrong and cause considerable dent in the pocket. Some of the things that can go wrong are:

Mobile based indoor and outdoor cameras are now easily available:

Trade off between quality and amount of time required to transfer pictures.Limitations on the amount of pictures that can be transferred because of data usage

These cameras can be coupled with motion sensors if requiredCan be used to monitor the people around the house as well as people coming in and going out of the house.In case of an event, the owner can be alerted immediately. If no response received within a certain time then if required emergency services can be alerted.

LTE Femtocells: would allow applications to transfer enormous amount of data andat the same time the cost of data transfer would be negligible via ‘Home Zone’ rates.would allow high speed of data transfer (up to 300Mbps) as in case of connected lines
