Best Mobile Innovation for Health : Etisalat for Etisalat “Drones for Good”

Best Mobile Innovation for Education : Worldreader and Opera for Worldreader Mobile

Polio is an infectious disease that particularly affects young children. Every child must be vaccinated

against polio, including those living in the most remote and isolated places in the world. Maintaining the

“Cold Chain” remains the main challenge to polio vaccination. Across Africa and Asia, Etisalat is

deploying special purpose drones designed to transport polio vaccine to the most remote locations,

recharging cold boxes and drone batteries at the GSM Base Stations while ensuring temperature

control and flight route management through GSM and Satellite networks.

Zuckerberg

3. Most important trends of MWC

Trends 1 : Virtual Reality is everywhere

About VR opportunities :

Facebook CEO Zuckerberg said :

“VR is the next platform, where anyone can create and experience anything

they want” & “"Right now, virtual reality is mostly used for games and entertainment,

but that’s quickly evolving. One day you’ll be able to put on a headset that’ll

change the way you live, work and communicate”

Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao said :

“Training at companies will cost a lot less when people can do it from behind their

virtual-reality headset” - “Education more broadly could benefit from these new

tools” -“It’ll be used for entertainment and gaming of course, but most importantly

training”

Deutsche Telekom CEO Timotheus Höttges said :

“You may have heard about robotic surgery, but so far, the technology isn’t really

virtual because in most instances, the doctor steering the thing usually sits right

there or, at best, in the next room. Timotheus Höttges is convinced that once

super-fast 5G mobile networks are commercially available, reduced latency will

enable the best doctors to operate patients that are half a world away. And there

are many more potential use cases, said CEO Tim Hoettges. “Think about the

architect, think about the retail store, think about fashion,” he said.

“Everything could be virtualized"

Vittorio Colao

Page 15: Mobile World Congress 2016

3. Most important trends of MWC

Trends 1 : Virtual Reality is everywhere

About VR adoption :

Virtual reality first entered

Gartner's annual hype cycle

chart in 2013

Gartner's 2015 Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies

Virtual realityAugustus 2015 (Gartner) :

« Peak of inflated expectations »

« Mass market »in 5-10 years

Now, after CES 2016 (with 40 VR

demonstration according Bloomberg)

& MWC 2016 Show, VR is in the

“slope of enlightenment” “More instances of how the technology

can benefit the enterprise start to crystallize

and become more widely understood.

Second- and third-generation products

appear from technology providers. More

enterprises fund pilots; conservative

companies remain cautious“ (Gartner)

Page 16: Mobile World Congress 2016

3. Most important trends of MWC

Trends 2 : 4.5G booming in 2016 & 5G to trigger disruption

Tony Kau, Director of Strategic Marketing, Mobile Business Unit at Micron Technology “The next-

generation 5G mobile network promises a future of ubiquitous, ultra-high- speed wireless connectivity, offering

throughput up to 50 times faster than existing 4G networks. 5G latency -- the delay between your request

for data and when your mobile device receives it -- will be at least 5 times better than 4G latency. 5G will unlock

incredible possibilities for multimedia and video experiences, as well as other innovative user experiences.”

Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) said at MWC that he hoped VR would be one of the "killer applications

of 5G." Data transfers so quickly that you won't have to wait long for virtual experience to load on your mobile VR

headset.

Huawei said “4G networks do not provide the support that virtual reality and 4K/8K ultra-HD video require. 4.5G's

gigabit-level speed and superior cell capacity mean that it can accommodate the huge demand for these services, so

4.5G will make immersive experiences an everyday occurrence.”

De la Vega, Vice-Chairman of AT&T said “that 5G would cause disruption to many industries, included his own company.” “Operators are moving towards software-based solutions instead of buying more

‘boxes’. Our own network will transition to SDN as part of our shift away from hardware.”

“Telemedicine becomes feasible with 5G, whose communication lag is brief enough to permit doctors to

perform some procedures remotely”, said Matt Grob, CTO of mobile-chip maker Qualcomm

Page 17: Mobile World Congress 2016

3. Most important trends of MWC

Trends 3 : Internet of Things explosion

A lot of companies including Intel, Dell and SAP were among those demonstrating their

newest connected devices :

Ambi Labs « Intelligent Air Conditioning » : App that lets users manage their air

conditioners from their smartphone, as well as track their air conditioning on graphs to gain a

deeper understanding of their AC usage over time”

SAP's IoT agricultural application that allow businesses to deliver geospatial situational

awareness applications for digital farming

Libelium's Sensory Platform: Sensor solutions which power solutions for smart cities

and have applications such as parking and traffic congestion management, environmental

monitoring, as well as air and water quality control

Intel's Recon Jet Headset contains GPS, gyro sensors and Bluetooth technology to track

users and show information during the workout

Qualcomm Products For Smart Cities, Oral-B Genius Smart Toothbrush, Acer

Cloud Professor IoT Development Kit, SK Telecom's IoT ThingPlug Platform, stylish smart bracelet Halo, connectivity technology SYNC 3 (Ford), etc

"Definitely we've seen more of a push to an Internet of Things ecosystem. We're

seeing more articulation around this story of the potential of what they could do and all the devices it

could benefit, from the fridge to the wearable" said Roberta Cozza (Gartner)

Mastercard

Samsung Pay

3. Most important trends of MWC

Trends 4 : Major announcements from mobile payments players

Visa announced Visa Ready Program : a new program for connected devices

makers to let them integrate secure payment features into their products. This program will

focus on payments for wearables, home appliances, clothing, automobiles

and other Iot companies "By adding payments to these devices, we are turning

virtually any Internet connection into a commerce experience — making secure payments

seamless, and ultimately more accessible, to merchants and consumers“ said Jim

McCarthy, executive vice president of innovation and strategic partnerships at Visa

Mastercard, (which already has a wearables initiative), said it planned to launch a ‘selfie

pay’ feature, that would let users perform security checks using a selfie

Samsung Pay will be available in more major markets this year : Brazil,

Singapore, Spain, the UK and Canada (already in China, US, South Korea)

PayPal to add NFC payments to Android app. The announcement follows PayPal’s

partnership with Vodafone to allow Vodafone Wallet users across Europe to make NFC

payments with their mobile phone Paypal

Visa

Page 19: Mobile World Congress 2016

3. Most important trends of MWC

Trends 5 : Privacy and security of devices, data and networks

Nokia revealed that it has acquired Canadian network security company Nakina Systems, in an

evident effort to give a boost to its 5G and IoT aspirations

BlackBerry launches new professional cybersecurity services by offering organizations new

consulting services, tools and best practices to assess and thwart ever-changing cybersecurity risks

“At MWC and into 2016, an important differentiator will become security and data privacy. Even

consumers with little interest or understanding of technology will see news stories about hacked devices and

companies, and as a result will look to be reassured about how secure their personal data is, but also how far

that data will be ‘legally’ shared with other companies,” said Jim Bailey senior managing director, Accenture

“Low power and security is key for NFC wearable designs”, says ARM

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg backs Apple in its battle with the FBI over Iphone Privacy. “I don’t think requiring backdoors into encryption is either going to be an effective way to increase security or is really

the right thing to do for the direction the world is going in. So, yeah, we’re pretty sympathetic with Tim and Apple on

this one,” said Zuckerberg

Kester Mann, principal analyst at CCS Insight, said that ‘’privacy and security are becoming

increasingly important and are “hugely topical given recent high-profile breaches, such as at TalkTalk and

Ashley Madison”
